Cusomized Vitamins!

Okay, i went to my MIL's yesterday to pick up n8 after he'd been there all afternoon and my MIL asked me to help her with some instructions on a "DNA Test Kit" she bought! I immediately asked her what she was needing to have her DNA analyzed for??!! She told me that she had bought this kit that will allow you to have your DNA analyzed by a lab that will then give you precise information about your individual nutritional needs and body chemistry!!! WOW!! I was intrigued.

So, we sat and watched the DVD that came with the kit so i could sort of "translate" and let her know what all it entailed. Basically, you swab the inside of your mouth (on both sides of your cheeks), fill out this nutritional questionnaire that asks about how often you eat certain vegetables, meats, sodas, consume alcohol, use tobacco, etc. Then, you pack up the swabs and the questionnaire and place it in a postage paid envelope and send it off to the lab. Then, the lab analyzes it with super-duper high tech machinery, that uses WAY too much biology and chemistry for my taste. Then, they print off a customized bound report that talks about what your genes are comprised of, where you are lacking (nutritionally), and how your body metabolizes certain foods, vitamins, and ingredients. The report also includes detailed information about what foods your particular body needs and basically tells what you should be eating more or less of, like certain vegetables and meats, etc. (I probably am eating WAY too much red meat for what my body really needs!)

Then, as if that weren't enough, they create a specific "recipe" for vitamin supplements for you that you can then purchase and use. The vitamin is customized to your particular body's needs!!

I guess just taking a regular Centrum or other vitamin isn't really enough! I am so intrigued by this technology! I told David i want to get one of those kits, but then realized they retail for $250. I am going to see if my MIL can get it cheaper for me since she is a rep for the company providing it. I really would like to get a customized vitamin, but mostly just want to see what my "genes" say about me! :)

Single?

So, i received this email from The Knot about a new site they've acquired called Great Boyfriends. Not sure why they contacted me, as i was only a member of The Knot during the time i was planning my WEDDING!

Apparently, the email they sent was to solicit great guys or girls to join as members of the site. I am thinking of profiling my brothers and brother-in-law, but we'll see.

Anyway, looks like a cool way to meet people if you're hip and single (of which i am not the latter) :) So, hopefully my sister is reading this and will visit to see if there are any single Trinnys she can contact!

Target is evil!

I swear Target has something in the air that makes you think you "need" everything you see there!

i went this afternoon to pick up a few grocery items and look for a baby gift. What i ended up with was that and much more! Their dollar spot is addictive! n8 got a dragon tales coloring book, two new puzzles (one has cool landmarks on it and the other has continents - we're starting him early, i know), ABC and number flash cards and we had to have popcorn, of course! :)

i picked up 2 sets of 3 candles each on sale for $1.98! I figured i can save one of the sets to use as a gift. i also got a bunch of their bin organizing thingys, and i went to their school supply section and picked up some cool new stamp pads ($1 each).

I rarely leave Target without dropping at least $50 or $60. Today was no different!

50s Family

Our wonderfully expensive Samsung TV has been down all day. Not sure what the problem is but for the past few days, it has been taking a while to turn on. It keeps restarting itself like it doesn't have enough "juice" to turn itself on. Well, today it went kaput! It hasn't been able to power on all day.

David and i tried for 2 hours when we got home today from swimming and eating at Jalapeno's (all with N8, of course!) It is completely dead, though. So, good thing we got the peformance service plan from Best Buy when we originally bought the TV. The earliest they can come fix it is Thursday though!! ARRGHHH! I can't even live without TV for that long....i am pretty sure david can't either!

David said, "well, i guess we're just going to miss our shows....oh wait, we don't have any shows." So, i told David, "well, it looks like we'll just have to just do what families did in the 50s and just sit around, talk, and get on each others' nerves!" Then David says, "or, play poker!" Then he made a beeline for the basement to get on his computer! I told him that that wasn't exactly what i meant about people in the 50s. He then retorted back that people indeed played poker in the 50s (although i highly doubt it was on Ultimate Bet!) Nonetheless, he is down playing poker with there being nothing else to do here!

On the bright side, it is awfully quiet in our house. I kind of like it, although, our DVR feature better be working to record Six Feet Under tomorrow night!!

What Else is There To Do In 104 Degree Temperatures?

We had such a great time today! We were over at David's mom's house and n8 was begging to go swimming (they live all of 10 feet from the community swimming pool), so we took him.

David, Dan (n8's Soo-Soo), and i all took n8 to the pool, which is a FABULOUS one!! I love it! I can't wait to go back there! Screw our neighborhood pool...this one was complete with a beach-like shallow area and COOL water slide! n8 conned us all into taking him on the huge waterslide dozens of times! I only took him twice because i actually got scared! (i'd take bungee jumping over waterslides any day!) The slide had lots of twists and turns and went really fast then at the end, threw you into the pool!

Anyway, we stayed in the pool for quite a while then left for dinner! What fun...we had a great family day! :)

Girlfriend Time

I was just thinking today how much i miss my friends sometimes. I am getting ready to have a jewelry show tomorrow and i can't wait to talk to all the gals coming over! Actually, all we ever really talk about are our kids anyway, but i still miss just having friends around...being able to call one up and chat or going to dinner without distractions, etc. So, it should be fun tomorrow!

It's so funny how now when i think about my friendships, pre-N8, that i can't even recall what our conversations were like or what we ever did to pass the time! Between running around to LLL meetings, playgroups, Kindermusik, swimming lessons, etc., i feel like i am busier now than i ever have been! I often sit and wonder what exactly i did (besides shop, of course) BEFORE i had n8 in my life! I guess i watched a lot of TV, but still, certainly not enough to fill the day!

Oh well, i guess one of the reasons i can't really recall what exactly my life was like pre-n8 is because when you become a mom, you also lose your mind! :)

Sesame Street curse

I think n8 has the Sesame Street curse that i did when i was little. I can't seem to pull him away from all of his favorite friends on the show! Oh well, at least he can count to 14 and say his ABCs so he's got something to show for it! :)

La Leche League

I was informed today that i am receiving a grant that i applied for through La Leche League (LLL) to become a LLL Leader! YIPPEEE!

The grant, funded by Medela, will cover all of the applicancy costs and materials associated with becoming a leader in my area. I am so excited! Now, just the hard part - going through my applicancy and completing all the necessary steps to become a leader! I really enjoy LLL and so does n8...he loves getting together with the other kids in the group and sharing weaning stories! :)

Sandra James?

Well, i am sure most of you have heard by now that my most FAVORITE celebrity (and fellow Austin, TX lover, i might add) finally married Jesse James!! Congrats, Sandra!

In grade school, i lived on a street named Jesse James, so i suppose Sandra and i would have that to talk about if we ever met!

Okay, well just thought i'd share the news with you all in case you hadn't heard.

P.S. Mom, if you're reading this and you happen to see Sandra downtown ever again in her Range Rover driving away from a vintage shop in Austin, make sure you stop and tell her congrats for me! :)

My new favorite CMS!

Okay, i know i am pretty geeky when it comes to computers, but other than motherhood, i really believe it's my one true calling!

I have started to teach myself "Mambo", which is a CMS (content management system) sort of like PHP-Nuke, in which my site is done. I like Mambo because the editing is all WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get) and not a lot of mumbo-jumbo code.

So, you'll probably see me come out with some new "business idea" or website using Mambo....i can't help myself....it looks too fun! :)
