I am getting in touch with my roots (a little bit)

Last night was so much fun! We ALL went to Jack Stack (one of my FAVORITE places - the beans are to die for!) for a late dinner. I think we were actually the last people in the joint. I diverted from my usual 2- meat platter and opted for the 3 meat platter. I had the sausage and double servings of the beef brisket which counted as my 2nd and 3rd meats. Then, i also had slaw and beans for my sides, pickles and bread. I am proud to say that due to my carnivorous nature, the only thing left on the plate by the end of the night was one slice of pickle.

I was hungry.

I have NEVER eaten that much at Jack Stack before. My family could NOT believe it!

So, we came home at about 10:30 last night after dinner and my mom busted out her Loteria game (a.k.a. Spanish Bingo) and we all played for nickels and dimes. It was so much fun! We stayed up till 12:30 or so playing. I actually got to practice some of my Spanish pronunciation while playing the game.

I won one monster pot in which we played for 25 cents a card rather than a nickel. That was sweet.

IMAX!

Today was a great day! Sarah (aka N8's Auntie) and i took n8 to his first IMAX movie over at the new AMC IMAX theatre. We went to see The Polar Express, which was cute!! N8 was more interested in the popcorn at first, but once he saw the groovy 3-D glasses, he was hooked!

We also all indulged in a small feast. Before heading to the movies, we stopped by Osco to pick up everyone's faves....gummy bears, red vines, reese's pieces, and runts. We also snuck in a few dill pickles. Sarah ordered the popcorn which we all split and of course, cherry coke for me. N8 had AJ (apple juice) and my sis also managed to return from the concession counter with a loaded hot dog. MMMMM!! N8 is definitely his momma's boy....loving moviegoing almost as much as i do!

Afterwards, we headed over to Best Buy (normally a n8 and Daddy hangout) to look for an accessory for david's new phone, which by the way, was a gift from "Santa".

Then we headed over to Old Navy to look for some slippers for david and i managed to find two cute maternity sweaters on sale for $9.99. I couldn't decide between the ivory and the pink so i took both! n8 picked out some groovy light-up reindeer antlers which he can still get some use out of since Grammy is coming tomorrow so we can do Christmas all over again!

Taco Soup

Sarah, my sis, made us the most tasty taco soup tonight for dinner! As far as i am concerned, she can stay as long as she likes!

The “ghetto-ness” of living in South JoCo

As i was walking downstairs this morning with n8, i peeked outside to see what was going on with the weather and noticed that our baby deer in this picture was gone.

Someone clearly unplugged it, detached it from the extension cord, and took it....witht the bow and all. (i had attached a burgundy wire bow to each deer after the above pic was taken). So now, the daddy deer stands there all alone in our front yard.

I was so ticked. I couldn't believe someone had done this. David's response was of course, "how ghetto, man!" I hope whoever took it really needed it for their yard...i am just sad because n8 was asking "where's the baby deer, mommy?" and i could tell he was sad.

What a thing to wake up to Christmas Eve morning.

The funniest thing i’ve ever heard, seriously!

While n8 and i were feeding Dorothy (our new fish...no i haven't posted about her/the situation yet, but i will!) and were marvelling at her coming up to take the food, blow bubbles, then swish her tail around, here's how the convo went:

Me: "Wow, did you see that? how she moved her tail? Do you have a tail like Dorothy?"

N8: "No. I have my booty....... and my ball."

I laughed hysterically. He seems to be well aware of his testicles.

I’m here, i’m just….

  • baking cookies with n8
  • working on a special "project" for someone special for Christmas!
  • wrapping Christmas gifts
  • trying to keep the house orderly
  • entertaining N8
  • checking my email
  • moving slow because of my belly which incidentally grew overnight!

Why i am not down with the GOP

I received this from the John Kerry email list today:

Dear Candy,

If you ever needed a reminder of how broken Washington has become under one-party rule, we're getting it loud and clear in the closing hours of this session of Congress. Instead of sending a unified and unanimous signal to our troops on the front lines, Republicans are instead scheming to make a giveaway to the big oil companies their parting shot before Congress leaves Washington this winter. The Republicans' aim is sadly simple: mission accomplished for the big oil companies, mission unaccomplished for our troops, our environment, and America's real energy security.

In the very early hours this morning, Republican Senators, in a desperate legislative maneuver, have attached an arctic drilling proposal to the defense bill. They're putting oil companies ahead of our troops. Senator McCain got it right when he called this maneuver "disgusting."

If you agree, call your Senator now and help us get this special interest giveaway off the bill that is supposed to be helping our troops.

Call your Senators and tell them to stand up against this Republican abuse of power

The Military Officer's Association of America predicted this tactic last week: "We're concerned that insertion of any divisive, non-defense related issues at the last minute could further delay enactment of this crucial legislation. Both defense bills are urgently needed to support our military efforts. Congress is already three months late passing them, and needs to get off the dime."

Yesterday, a group of five high-profile generals sent a letter to Senator Frist that said: "It is not helpful to attach such a controversial non-defense legislative issue to a defense appropriations bill. It only invites delay for our troops as Congress debates an important but controversial non-defense issue on a vital bill providing critical funding for our nation's security."

Republican leaders know that drilling in the Arctic Refuge has nothing to do with this critical defense legislation. They know that just weeks ago, the arctic drilling proposal didn't have the votes to pass in the light of day because it's wrong for America. Now, the Republicans know where our generals stand on this matter. Will you join us in making them listen to our military?

Call your Senators and tell them to stand up against this Republican abuse of power

We have to make it clear that it's dead wrong for the Republican leadership in this Congress to break Senate rules in a last-ditch attempt to sneak through the arctic drilling proposal. Congress shouldn't keep our troops waiting in order to keep special interests happy.

Ask yourself: how long will our troops have to wait while Republican Senators attach unrelated, controversial ideological adventures that don't pass the test with the American people?

Call your Senators and tell them to stand up against this Republican abuse of power

I'm doing all I can to force the Republican leadership to surrender their irresponsible arctic drilling proposal. If they don't, I intend to spend a lot of time on the Senate floor talking about this. And if people want to call it a filibuster, that's fine by me.

I need your help today to lobby your Senators to take this controversial provision off the defense bill.

This is no small fight. What the Republicans are doing dishonors our troops, it dishonors the Senate, it breaks the public trust - and in this particular instance, it would lead to the destruction of one of America's most treasured wildlife refuges. I won't stand for it.

And next time these Republicans tell me that we have to destroy this wildlife refuge for our energy security, I'm going to tell them the truth that you and I know with every fiber of our being: we cannot drill our way to energy independence; we have to invent our way there. The best ways to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil are to conserve more, waste less, and develop more fuel-efficient cars so we use less oil and gas.

I'm not going to stand for the hollow, empty, more of the same energy policy written by Dick Cheney in secret meetings that puts at risk the troops this defense bill is meant to protect.

Call your Senators and tell them to stand up against this Republican abuse of power

Tell your Senators to oppose this underhanded attempt to hijack legislation for our troops to give an early Christmas present to the oil companies.

Thank you for fighting back. Your voice will make a huge difference.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

Pregnancy Pics

It just occured to me that i've neglected to get ANY pictures of myself during this pregnancy and i am already so far along! I had TONS of pictures of myself at by this time when i was pregnant with n8. Oh well...better late than never.

P.S. check out the cutie in the background!

A serious brag about my husband.

As many of you know, David plays poker online quite frequently, and he's pretty damn good. Yesterday, he informed me that he won a "tournament" on Ultimate Bet. Well, he wins tournaments a couple of times a week, so i was thinking it was the usual $50 or $100 prize money. (which, don't get me wrong, is not chump change)

So, imagine the look on my face when he told me it was a $1,200 win!! I thought he was kidding, then i realized he was serious! The last time he won that kind of money was February of this year. He so generously gave me $1,000 of his then $1,600 win to spend on pampering my friends for my 30th birthday. We all had a blast.

I can't believe he won that much money!! Not bad for 4 hours of work, huh? So we've been toying around with what we'd do with the money. I told him it was his win, so he should do whatever he wants and of course he turned right around and said it was our money and that he wants me to help decide. Awwww, how sweet (yeah right, i'll pay for that later!) My suggestion was to buy n8's new bedroom furniture or a new matress for our bed (can you tell i am not sleeping well already?) So, we'll see what we decide to do. At any rate, we'll be having one heck of a New Year's Eve party! :)

Rose Bowl, Baby!

My sis sent this to me

THE NIGHT OF THE ROSE BOWL

T'was the night of the Rose Bowl…and all through the land,

All the Longhorns were stirring, even the band.

The tickets were purchased for the game, room, and air…

In hopes that "Saint Vincent" would soon be there!!

The fans were tailgating from their truck beds,

While a vision of a championship danced in their heads.

And Bevo in his bridle, and me in my cap…

Had just popped a cold one before the first snap.

When out on the turf there arose such a clatter,

I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter!!

My eyes fixed on the tunnel, and the thundering herd;

The roar of the fight song; I sang every word!!

They ran to the end zone, and knelt to their maker…

Giving thanks for TEXAS, and the victory later!!

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear.

Coach Mack in his glory, "THE HEAD COACH OF THE YEAR"!

And our hero from Houston that I haven't seen since;

I knew in a moment it must be "Saint Vince"!

More rapid than eagles his posse they came…

And he whistled and shouted and called them by name!

Now, THOMAS! Now, TAYLOR! Now, PITTMAN and SWEED!

On, CHARLES! On, GRIFFIN! ROSS, HUFF and McGEE!

To the top of the world for a championship crown!

Now dash away, dash away, to a TEXAS touchdown!

They fought with fury! They fought with might!

They fought like champions on this championship night!

Oh! The bombs they flew, and the holes blew open…

The Longhorns ran the ball just as we were hop'in.

The defense attacked, and oh, they played hard!

Stopping the Trojans, in their own back yard!

Mack's eyes how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, the "crystal ball" he did carry!

He embraced his coaches, he embraced his team!

And "The Eyes of TEXAS" we all did sing

A season that will live forever in lore;

COME EARLY, WEAR ORANGE, STAY LATE, once more!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, TEXAS!!
