What is it with being a Bartender that’s so great?

I've had a TON of applicants (mostly male) that have NO experience behind a bar that are applying for a bartender position at Green Tea. One that comes to mind was particularly confusing. The guy has worked for T-Mobile sales, the Social Security Administration, and Progressive Insurance. He is applying for a BARTENDING position. I think it's mostly to meet chicks.

Anyway, it's just been mind-boggling to me how many weirdo applicants we've gotten over the past few days.

Why i am here instead of Austin.

Whew, it's been a busy last couple of days. As many of you know, i was planning on making my last trip down to Austin before baby comes in April. N8 and i were scheduled to leave today but yesterday we decided to cancel the trip based on a number of factors.

With the opening of Green Tea just around the corner, my "people" skills are desperately needed here to help interview potential new employees. David has also gone a little under the weather and i just couldn't, in good conscience, leave at such a crucial time like this. n8 and i have been at the restaurant every day for the past 3 days. I've mostly been taking applications and talking to people coming in asking, "when are you opening?", "what kind of food are you going to have here?", "what's your price range?", "are you hiring?", etc., etc.

So, i did some call backs today and i have a few interviews setup with people tomorrow. I hope to get the interviewing done tomorrow and Saturday so we can train on Monday and Tuesday and open on Wednesday, the 1st.

Everyone's doing their part, David, his parents, and his brother....so i am glad i stayed to help out. We'll try and see if we can make the trip to Austin later in February.

I went to the mall by myself!

It was a nice treat. While n8 was at Green Tea taking a nap, i decided to head on over to the mall to make a quick exchange. Well, you know it turned into so much more! I shopped for some new shoes, got a couple of cute jammies for Nathan and some cute flip-flops that were at the Disney store. (can you tell i am so ready for Spring?)

I also stopped in at the Cookie Factory Bakery and got a DOUBLE DOOZIE..........MMMMMMMM! It was so nice meandering through the mall sans a stroller and whiny kid.

I think i'll make it a point to do it regularly.

Who needs a tape measure when you’ve got toilet paper?

Since i won't be having a baby shower for baby #2 (don't know why this is considered bad etiquette??), i decided to take it upon myself to play the "toilet paper game" by myself tonight while n8 was playing in his bathtub. (He is obsessed with catching the litle plastic fish with his net.)

For those of you who haven't been to a baby shower in the last 100 years or have forgotten, what usually happens is all guests are invited to guess how "big-a-round" the mom-to-be is by estimating how many squares of toilet paper it would take to go around her [very pregnant] belly.

I was curious to know how big i am at this point since this is about how far along i was when i got measured at my shower while pregnant with Nathan. Note: i was 12 squares at that time.

I measured at.........drumroll, please...............10 squares! Woo-hoo!

See what boredom while bathing a toddler will do to you?

My sister reminded me of another BIG prize i won.

Since i've been trying to recall all of my previous winnings, i should add this one that my sister reminded me of.

  • DVD player from On the Border's Cinco de Mayo celebration
That was a fun win! We still have that DVD player and use it in our basement when we're down there. That night was crazy! A friend of ours that was part of our party also won a golf bag. He tried to trade us for the DVD player and i was like, "yeah, riiiiiiggghhht!!!" Good thing david wasn't a huge golf fanatic at that time yet.

Why my car will stay dirty.

Yesterday, against my better judgement, i went thru the laser car wash place by our house. Nathan was terrified. He just made that sad look on his face and had tears streaming down and all that could calm him was his daddy. I finally had to call him on my cell phone so he could talk to Nathan and assure him everything was fine.

It's raining today and cold. See, i knew i shouldn't have gone through that wash.

I haven’t won anything in a LONG time, and most people won’t be surprised that today that changed.

I was driving to meet david after my whole glucose test today at the hospital when a local radio station announced they were giving away a prize package. I didn't really hear what all it contained except "FREE FOOD at HAYWARD'S BARBECUE". Of course, me being the starving pregnant woman i am, i made up my mind to call in and win that darn food.

It worked. The phone rang about 5 times then a lovely lady picked up and said "you're caller 12!" I replied, "NO WAY??!!". She went on to tell me that i had won free food at Hayward's and tickets to the Voodoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino in Kansas City to see some band called "Vertigo" play.

If my sister is reading this, she won't be surprised. In fact, it's a standing joke in my family that i am always winning stuff! It has been a while though, so i was due for something.

This really made my day especially after having been in hospital all day.

By the way, here is a partial list of items i can think of off the top of my head that i've won in the past:

  • Janet Jackson concert tickets for her San Antonio stop (i gave these to my sister since i wasn't going to be able to go)
  • Trek mountain bike from The Limited store in Austin, TX (i couldn't BELIEVE i had won a BIKE!!)
  • Movie tickets (too many to remember titles)
  • Hannibal and Silence of the Lamb movies on VHS
  • Passes to local events (in Austin)

Thank goodness i am done fasting! I have no idea how anorexics do it!

I am so glad to be done with the stupid glucose test thingy. It felt so good to eat food!!! Before 1:00 pm today i hadn't eaten since 7:00 pm last night! I was famished!

Anyway the test went well. I've got 4 spots where they pricked me today and nathan was so cute saying "let me kiss it for you" when he saw all of my cotton ball bandages. I am hoping the bruising isn't too bad, but with my horrible veins, they did have to stick me in my left hand, which usually bruises and is more sensitive than my inner elbow.

Now i just wait for the results....hopefully tomorrow and hopefully everything is normal. If not, i guess i'll deal with it.....i have to, right?

Great, I am stressed out, AGAIN!

I received a phone call this afternoon from my OBGYN's nurse that my one-hour glucose screening results came back and my "levels" were elevated. The cutoff is 135 and mine was 145. Thus, i have to go back into the lab on Wednesday morning to retest and this time do the 3-hour glucose tolerance test. I am not looking forward to this at all. I didn't have get screened at this level when i was pregnant with Nathan. I have been researching it online since i received the news late this afternoon and am so worried about the possibility of developing gestational diabetes now.

Why does this pregnancy have to be SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than my first? I just want a NORMAL pregnancy! Since diabetes runs in my family, i am even more worried about the test. I've been sad all afternoon, crying then trying not to worry, then crying again.

So, i will be going to the lab at 9 am on Wednesdsay and will have to stay there for 3 - 4 hours to complete the entire process. Okay, i am going to try and think of something else now....
