Snow Day = Christmas

Today when Nathan looked outside and saw all the white everywhere he turned to me and said,

"Mommy it's Christmas because there's snow outside....it's gonna be Christmas!"

Can you tell this kid's not experienced a Christmas in Texas? Well, actually he did spend his first Christmas there but he's too young to remember that it was mild with definitely NO snow.

So, today's our snow day since everything got canceled and we're just waiting for the white fluffy stuff to come down. We've got our snow boots and mittens all ready to go! Good thing when it was like 65 degrees a few days ago I finished getting all of the Christmas lights done outside. Nathan helped too so that was nice. We just need to put our deer out since we didn't get to yesterday.

For now our snow day fun will include some foamies crafts, hot cocoa with marshmallows, popcorn, and movies, movies, movies! I think i might burn some wood in the fireplace too, just for the added touch.

With the house all decorated and our Christmas trees up and lit, it really does feel like Christmas time around here. I can't say I don't miss my Texas sunshine and that I actually LIKE freezing, but having kids makes it more fun. The only bad part is that we've been home now for two days and both N8 and I are just itchin' to get out and go somewhere.

Will is content with his homebody self. :)

When the snow clears, you better believe we are hittin' the town to do something!

Of all meats, it was the bacon.

This morning while still in bed I overheard David ask Nathan what he wanted for breakfast. N8 replied with his usual "egg and cheese" and then David suggested "how 'bout some bacon?" Nathan then asked what bacon was (even though he's seen it a hundred times I am sure) and David described it as "salty and good; crunchy like chips". Well, of course N8 was game but I was thinking yeah, right! No way this kid's going to eat bacon.

Boy was I wrong. I managed to tear up a strip of bacon after it was cooked and served it with his egg and cheese. I informed N8 that his "bacon chips" were right next to the egg and that he should try some. He did. He liked. I smiled.

For those of you who don't know why the heck I'd be blogging about this, the fact that my kid even entertained the IDEA of bacon chips is HUGE!!

Now that we got bacon down you think he'll go for a bacon wrapped filet mignon? Nah, probably not, but certainly worth a try. I know who'd finish it if he couldn't.

I know my kid’s beautiful, but people, can’t you read?

Yesterday while enjoying lunch at Chick-fil-a, a lady made her way over to our booth to pay Will a compliment. First, let me set the scene.

Nathan was playing in the little play area so it was just Will and I at the table. He was wearing a holiday themed red one piece sleep-n-play and a BLUE bib that read, "I'm the Little Brother" and had baseball bats, balls, etc all over it. He was in his high chair facing forward and I was feeding him organic butternut squash with corn (which, by the way, he DEVOURED and loves!).

So anyway, this woman walks over, takes one look at him, smiles (he smiles back at her) and then she turns her head to look at me while I am reaching with the spoon to Will's mouth and says, "Your baby is so cute. Just beautiful. how old is SHE?"

I laughed and replied, "HE is seven months."

She was obviously embarassed and apologized profusely, but I kept telling her it was no big deal.

Then she says to me, "babies....huh....you can never tell these days!!"

I wanted to say, "lady, can you read?? Surely the BLUE bib with the brother comment does something for ya!"

I just stared at her in confusion after her remark about not being able to tell.

Then she quickly added, "oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you!"
I was like, "no, not at all, it's fine." And truly, it was. Both of my boys have been labeled as being "too beautiful to be boys" before so it really wasn't a surprise. The thing that got me was that she didn't get it about the bib.

What a weirdo.

Thanksgiving recap….finally!

Thanksgiving was of course a blast with my familia in town! Here are some pics mostly just for the sake of my journaling but for you too if you're interested!

Sitting on our tryptophan-filled butts playing Family Feud DVD and Balderdash on Thanksgiving Day. David still makes me laugh just like he did when we were 18! Dude, that guy's hilarious and he doesn't even try. I love him.

Lunch the next day at Green Tea. No turkey leftovers for us! YAY!

Little lovebirds. My cuz Amanda and her might-as-well-be-fiance, Matt.

Anna trying her luck at motherhood. Not gonna happen anytime soon.

Doing some Black Friday shopping with Auntie at The Legends.

Will trying on some hats for the winter.

Little lovebirds. My cuz Anna and her might-as-well-be-fiance, Josh.

Extreme bowling on Friday night to celebrate Josh's birthday. Are these not the best looking group of cousins you've EVER seen?

On this day….

Nina posted this so I'd thought I'd give it a try.

1) Go to Wikipedia

2) In the search box, type your birth month and day but not the year.

3) List three events that happened on your birthday

4) List two important birthdays and one death

5) One holiday or observance (if any)

Here's what I came up with:

Events:
1) The world-famous dwarfs General Tom Thumb and Lavinia Warren get married in New York City.
2) 1897 - Freedom of religion in Madagascar
3) 1967 - The 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution ratified.
4) 1949 - Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman premiered in New York City. (I had to put this fourth one in here only because it is eerily related to the death referenced below.)

Births:
1) 1955 - Greg Norman, Australian golfer
2) 1961 - George Stephanopoulos, American political commentator

Death:
1) 2005 - Arthur Miller, American playwright (b. 1915)

Holiday/Observance:
1) Italy - National Memorial Day of the Exiles and Foibe to commemorate Italian Istrian and Dalmatian exiles and Foibe massacres.

I’m not dead, just entertaining family.

Thanksgiving weekend has been a BLAST so far!! I promise to post more soon but for now I am insanely busy with the following:

  • Eating delicious homemade food including the big t-giving feast.
  • Playing various games like Balderdash, Family Feud, and Loteria (Spanish bingo).
  • SHOPPING and showing everyone all around town.
  • Playing hostess to my nine guests all visiting from two different southern states.
  • Trying to keep my kids from getting too spoiled with all the attention they're receving here.
  • Celebrating various birthdays which occured the day of t-giving and the day after.
  • Catching up with my wildly entertaining (and when I say wild, I MEAN wild, seriously....they're freaking hilarious!!) and oh-so-fun family - GOD I LOVE THEM!!

Fresh-squeezed fun.

Today was fabulous. After dining at Texas Roadhouse once again for lunch (love those rolls and butter!), we all headed home where Nathan decided he needed a nap. Will and I ran up to church to take a walk-through of the holiday bazaar. There were some very unique and great gift ideas there. I ended up shopping for myself though. A friend of mine's mom was selling Ruanas similar to this one for about 30 bucks so I picked one up in a camel color. It is so beautiful and comfortable. I just know I am going to love it.

Anyway so I headed back home only to find Nathan was still sleeping! David and I chatted a bit before he headed off to work and when he left Nathan and I made some fresh squeezed lemonade. He's a major lemonade afficionado so when I asked him if he preffered Chick-fil-a's lemonade or our lemonade and he answered "ours", I was shocked. I guess it was that good! We had a great time making it. I used my new heavy duty food processor's juicer component and it was a breeze. Here's my method:

-the juice of 8 small lemons
-1 cup sugar
-3 cups cold H2O (or more, to taste)
-Blend all three, chill, and enjoy!
-You can also slice some fresh lemon and place a few slices in the pitcher for garnishment and added flavor.
(avoid adding ice as it dilutes)

A food irony.

I had DVRd this documentary, Thin, that was on HBO earlier today and watched it while the kids were napping this afternoon. I thought it was ironic that I sat to watch it while eating cheese, M&Ms, and drinking a lemon lime soda. It was a documentary about girls with eating disorders.

I just don't get these girls. I mean, my heart goes out to them. I am not sure how they could actually go through what they do. I know it's more than just about food, but they were so messed up. I know I could never be on that show or on Survivor. I love food WAAAAAYYY too much! I guess in a way, that's an eating disorder too.

I could tell Nathan got that weird feeling today.

Have you ever seen someone, say a teacher, out of the usual environment you are used to seeing them? Doesn't that always feel weird? Well today it happened to Nathan. We waltzed into Price Chopper and while I was getting Will put into the cart we see N8's preschool teacher, Ms. Jan, walking briskly out of the first set of double doors. I turned to Nathan to say, "hey isn't that Ms. Jan?" and saw that he'd already noticed.

Anyway she stopped and we chatted for a minute or two and I could tell N8 was feeling very strange. It was cute though. He kept showing her his gloves that he had on and they discussed how cold it was outside today. It was nice to know she actually lives near us. We talked a bit about the elementary school in our district and it turns out she used to teach there as well. After visiting we went on our way but I could tell that N8 just felt a little weird about running into his teacher at the grocery store.

Caught red-handed.

Lil' homeboy made his way from the living area into the entryway to go for the nightlight and plug nearby. I am gonna have to keep my eye on this one.
