Where am I, Seattle?

I am SO tired of the rain. I am hoping it will stop soon and the hot sun will soon be shining down again. I want to go swimMING! Okay, enough of my whining ..... off to get my haircut, which I am in desperate need of at the moment.

My Mom and Joe are here this weekend so I am really happy about that. It's so nice to be with family, even if it is just for a little while.

Just a phase?

Dare I say it but Will seems to be over his water funk. Today he was such a fish even getting into the baby ring at the pool. We were there all day long again with Nathan's friend Cole and his mommy. We arrived at about 11:45 this morning and ate a quick picnic lunch then of course Cole and N8 threw their floaties on and headed for the slide. We heard not a peep from them for the entire 3+ hours we were there, except for during break times when they came over to grab towels and handfulls of snacks.

I ran into another friend of mine there, Triss, from church and Angie, Cole's mom, and I just sat and chatted with Triss and her little one. Anyway, back to the post.

Will had such a great time in the water today and this evening while bathing both boys together he was the first one in and screaming when I finally got him out. I notice that he really just doesn't like the water splashing ON his head unless he's the one doing the splashing - then it just doesn't even matter. So, I am hoping that the whole water phobia thing was just a phase for him. Hopefully so because if the weather holds out, we're swimming tomorrow again!

Cool places with familiar faces.

Today after the Little Angels kids program at church, we were invited to join Nina and her boys Liam and Colm for lunch over at Beach Bums Island Cartoon Cafe. This place is WAY cool and just within walking distance from our house. It's practically in our backyard. Anyway, I really hope the community starts supporting it because it was not too terribly busy the whole time we were there but definitely a better choice for those with kids who usually frequent the Chuck E. Cheese joint.

The boys enjoyed watching the humongo jumbotron of a TV screen where they played a series of laugh-out-loud Beach Bums Island cartoons while waiting for our food. Nina and I both got the BLT sandwich which came with really fresh, yummy, generous bowls of fruit and the boys got pizza and PB&Js.

After eating, the boys took their bags of tokens into the little game room which was really clean and contained (unlike C.E.C). Nathan had tons of fun playing several games there and in the end turned in his tickets for a mini spinning top, camo airplane, and a ring.

I really hope the place makes it and stays in business...it's such a neat place to take the kids. Oh yeah, and I should mention that I of course I had $5 off coupons for Nina and I.

I know, I’m just being moody.

Why do people ask dumb questions just for the sake of conversation? Someone recently wrote me in an email "So, did you survive the weekend?". Of course, it's NO ONE that is reading my blog, which is why I feel totally safe to complain about such dumb things to ask. I mean, if I hadn't survived it, I wouldn't even be reading the message in the first place so it's totally pointless to ask me that. I would hope that if I hadn't survived the weekend that even my acquaintances would have found out about it somehow.

I know, this sounds so b&*chy but it gets on my nerves. I guess it just reminds me of the kind of dorky phraseology you hear, like on the movie Office Space.

"Looks like someone's got a case of the MONDAYS!"

Puh-leez!!

Happy Summer!

YAY! Summer has officially arrived today. I am so stoked although I know it will whizz by and we'll be sporting our wool coats and gloves way too soon. Ironically, instead of enjoying the stinkin' hot weather today, I've spent most of my afternoon purging and cleaning the basement out. I've been working on our play area down there for some time, although I guess I need to get rid of all the alcohol just sitting on the bar before we actually have kiddos down there unsupervised.

I was able to put the boys down for a nap at about 4 pm and have been down there for two hours until Will just woke up. I went through our large closet with built-ins down there and purged so many books....why on earth do we have so many?? I was able to divy them up by category:

  • Textbooks
  • Nonfiction
  • Golf books
  • Reference
  • Fiction
  • Computers

You would not BELIEVE how many textbooks we have. We had more books in that category than any other. But, I am sorry I just couldn't bring myself to part with my Pubic Relations textbook or any of my Com Studies books. I am sure David wants to hang on to his Economic policy and Math for Engineers book as well. (go figure!) Anyway, now all of our books are easy to find and are all sorted, nice and neat. I also came across People Magazine's collector edition of "All Time Best Weddings" magazine that was published in 2000. Guess who was on the cover? Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston - too bad that wedding was all for not. I decided to keep the collector mag....but maybe I should sell it on ebay, after all, why the hell do I care about celebrity weddings? I totally must've picked that up because I was planning my own wedding at the time.

Just some brotherly love.

Garage sale toys are the best!

This morning before Spanish class, we headed over to the first official day of the church garage sale. Nathan had his two dollars that he's been itching to spend ever since David's mom gave them to him. Nathan's been on the hunt for a buzz lightyear figure, a Frank (from the Cars movie) and random other things.

Well, in my opinion, the garage sale was completely picked over at 8:30 a.m., but we did manage to spend $1.50 and get a neat tractor (sans one tire), a fun game, a couple of books, and the van that Nathan will. not. put. down!

It came with EVERYTHING you see in the picture and was only a quarter! It even fits with the whole "Green Movement" since it has stickers like "Save the Earth" and has a hippie feel to it. It's one of those camping traveling vans, complete with trailer, jeep-in-tow, a big map of the USA on the inside and a campfire with benches to sit on. Quite a bargain!

Swim playdate recap.

Today was our playdate with Nathan's pal, Cole and it was perrrfect for swimming! Nathan and Cole met during their class at the the Little Gym this past semester and are just a few days apart in age and they play remarkably well together. So after Spanish class this morning, we met for lunch at Chick-fil-a with Cole and his mommy. The boys played there some after eating then we headed over to David's mom's neighborhood pool which has the SAWEET waterslide.

As soon as we arrived, I slathered N8 up with sunscreen and he was all but running toward the slide. Cole, on the other hand, was just a tad skeptical. But by the end of our very long day at the pool, he was going up and down the slide like an old timer. I wish I would have snapped pics of Cole going down all by himself. We were all so proud. After I went down with him several times and gently coaxed him into doing it by himself, he was able to master it. Nathan and he continued up and down until we left, taking small breaks every now and again to play with the water squirters, eat a snack, and lay out.

Will also had a great time, though he kept wanting to simply climb the stairs TO the slide but settled in the end for wading in the pool. I tried putting him completely in but he wanted nothing to do with it.

By 4:30 when we arrived back home, both boys were asleep in their carseats and were completely worn out. I was thankful they napped because I was beat too. I am hopeful that we'll get to go back to the pool soon....I love hanging out there.

My trilingual preschooler.

Lately with all of the Spanish classes that Nathan is in, he's been more and more in touch with speaking in different languages at random times. We also use Spanish and Chinese out in public and pretend that it's code word talk so that no one else understands us. Quite cool.

Anyway, he's quick to remind me to say "de nada" when he says "gracias" to me for handing him something or giving him permission to do something. He eagerly says:

"Mommy, mommy! You have to say "de nada" because I said "gracias"!!"

Or, he'll say something like:

"Xie, xie (pronounced 'she-eh she-eh') Mommy, xie, xie.....now you have to say 'bu ke chi'...say it, Mommy, say it!"

It's quite cool to hear him speak so freely in his other languages. I am so proud that he's confident in speaking in Spanish and Chinese. He was also quite proud of himself the other day when he randomly told me:

"Mommy, I know how to say 'down' in Spanish......"

[me: "really, how?"]

N8: "Abajo, abajo!"

I'm glad to see his Spanish classes paying off.
