Summertime tunes.

What is it about the warm weather and the sunroofs open that just makes us want to listen to those fun, nostalgic summertime tunes? Today when I was out 'n about, within the span of like twenty minutes, I heard three of those old school beats that I remember from way back in the day. The first didn't really surprise me. It was good ol' Young MC with Bust A Move. Then a few minutes later I hear rough ol' Bobby Brown talking about Don't Be Cruel .....

"Girrrl, the only thang that matters in my life {dum, dum, du, du, dum} is that I'm down for you and treat you riiiight....."

And lastly, a more recent tune made its way back onto the airwaves. Notorious B.I.G. was rapping his Hypnotize tune. So, why is it that all the music you can really move to comes out mostly when the sun does? Well, at any rate, I'm not complaining. I could care less if Barry Manilow was playing on the radio - as long as I gets my sun, dang it!

Hot dog soup.

On days where I really don't have a whole lot to blog about, I tend to start looking at my thousands of notes that I make for myself on a daily basis and today, I found this:

{this was written the day we did an indoor picnic}

Nathan wanted so desperately to have a picnic today so we decided it was best done in the living room.  As we were sitting, having lunch, this is what ensued:

<blockquote>N:  "mom would you like some hot dog soup?"

Me:  "what's in hot dog soup?"

N:  "just hot dogs. and some garlic. a little bit of flour and tomato."</blockquote>

I <del datetime="2008-05-29T21:03:18+00:00">hardly</del> seriously doubt our family will be dining on this anytime soon.

Summer reading meets water fun.

This morning I took the boys to the summer reading kickoff celebration at the park to mark the beginning of the summer reading season. I wish I would've taken my camera because there was so much great stuff going on. In addition to the boys meeting friends and playing on the playground, they did some fun worm art, made a great plant to put into the ground to attract butterflies, and got silly polaroids taken of themselves in one of those cardboard photo thingys. They also picked up their summer reading charts, lists, and info so that we can keep track of their books and then redeem the list for a prize at the end of summer.

Afterwards, I ran to Home Depot for an errand then took the kids to lunch. We got home and it was still pretty steamy outside so I suggested we give our new wacky sprinkler head a try. Nathan wasted no time getting wet in the sprinkler and trying to spray Will with it. He even ended up spraying me at one point (which I was not all that thrilled about). I am looking forward to many more summer days outside with water play!

Buzz Lighthair.

Today the boys got their official summer season haircut - the infamous buzz cut. They love it. I love them, but they do have damn good hair and I like it long and shaggy. But, they do get so sweaty during bedtime and just in general out in the heat so the haircuts do make good sense. Anyway, I haven't taken any pics of them yet so you peeps will just have to wait and see them IRL.

All you really need is popcorn and lemonade.

Today I ventured out and took the kids to the Turkey Creek Festival in a nearby local town. I had heard there would be lots of [free] stuff for the kids and it was also toasty and hot outside [just the way I like it], so I decided it'd be a good fit. For the first time ever I didn't even take the stroller AND I was by myself with the kids. Surprisingly, Nathan and Will did great at holding my hand the entire time when I asked them to and no one dared run off like a crazy person. They were so well behaved that at one point I actually considered that they might have been replaced by aliens in the middle of the night.

Another reason I pondered the whole alien bit was because shortly after our arrival I saw this:

Nathan never gets on inflatables! He is usually terrified of them. I even remember being pregnant with Will and taking Nathan to one of those places that has these bouncy things and he got so scared at the top of a slide similar to the one above and I had to go up to get him then slide down with him. I was sure my water bag was going to break but, nope, it didn't. So, again, totally shocked that Nathan not only went down this inflatable slide once, but several times! I had to bribe with treats to peel him away from it! But before the treats, we decided to take a ride on the little park train that was making its way around.

Then, we went for this:

After our ice cream we went and played a bit on the playground equipment, did some walking around then just before leaving the kids twisted my arm for this:

What a perfect day! Oh yeah, and they fell asleep on the way home, to boot!

My baby is a Pre-K’er!

Where does the time go, seriously? It feels like just yesterday I was wiping his fuzzy behind with newborn baby wipes and sponge bathing him in my bathroom sink. And here we are - today - Nathan's last day of preschool. He's been through the 3 year-old program, now the 4 year-old, and this fall will be in Pre-K. I am so grateful for that September birthday! I am sure I would be a wreck getting ready to send him to a big school this fall.

Today was Nathan's last day with Ms. Jan - forever. Too sad. She is the best teacher we could have dreamed of for Nathan. In fact, I don't think I could've designed one better myself. Can't she just follow us around for the rest of his academic career? No? Darn. So, it was bittersweet, as most endings are. Nathan loves school oh-so-much. I hope his wonderment and enthusiasm only grow more and more.

Smiling during his last circle time.

Whispering his answer to "my favorite thing at school is?" [incidentally, he answered playing cars.]

Clearing out his wall pocket with his name tag and other school goodies.

Having one more snack - CUPCAKES brought by classmate, Sydney.

Giving his teacher one final big hug to end the day!

After school we headed over to a local park for the end-of-year picnic. Here he is waiting for his best buddy to sign his autograph book. Yeah, right....like these two aren't ever going to see each other again!

At one point during our outing I couldn't find Will. So, i checked the food area. Yep, there he was sucking down Oreos.

End of year photo op with teacher, Ms. Jan.

New favorite thing in our house.

Will's favorite new thing to do around here is cut with scissors. Cut everything! I just couldn't resist taking the shot of his chubby little fingers and hands today while he was doing a masterpiece.

Orange bowl.

Bowling is Will's sport. That boy never gets tired of it! Today he found a new bowling ball.

Potty time.

Will tried his potty for the first time ever today. He was so excited! This kid has been so interested in doing his business like a big boy lately so I finally gave him the opportunity to prove himself. Nothing really came out but he still had a great time. He didn't even want to get off the pot! What is it about men? They actually enjoy their time on the toilet. He just kept yelling out, "Come!" to signal that something was coming out, when in fact, nothing did.

I'm really not looking forward to potty training [another boy] but hopefully he'll just get the hang of it rather easily. Yeah, right!
