World's most perfect food.

What can I say?  I am LOVING watermelon right now.  I am at the grocery store just around the corner nearly every other day picking up watermelon.  Hey, it's only 69 cents a pound right now and really quite sweet!  Speaking of sweet, I met the sweetest little lady there the other day who was picking out one for herself.  She was showing me how the more cracked ones are the ones to go for and are usually really ripe.  She also pointed out that I should look for less of the white around the rind.  Her advice has served me well over the last couple of days.

Lucky for me, Will is the only one who seems to want watermelon even half as much as I do.  I've been sharing my stash with him.  I am usually found snacking on it while making dinner because I need something to nibble on.

I really can't wait for summer now....the fruit (I love most) only gets better!

Wacky Wednesday.

Nathan is trying to run his school, seriously.  A while back he suggested to his teacher that they needed to have a Wacky Wednesday as they did at his "old" preschool.  He explained to her what exactly a Wacky Wednesday was and she went for it!

Today was the designated day.  Nathan has been looking forward to this since he found out it was a go!  In addition to dressing wacky for today, the teachers really went all out.  Nathan informed me when I picked him after school that the numbers on the calendar in the class were upside down.  And, their teacher had made nametags for all of them substituting the first letter in everyone's name with a "W" for wacky and Wednesday.  So for today, Nathan was Wathan.  Ironically, this actually wasn't too terribly wacky.  Before Will could pronounce Nathan's name fully, he would refer to him as Wathan.  Kinda cute.

My wacky boys! Of course Will wanted his hair wacky-fied, too!

William: Three Years.

My baby, Will, turned three on the 15th!  I've finally finished my post on him!

I've finally found a way to make you smile for the camera!  I took this just today while you were playing with your calculator surrounded by your sports balls.  I resorted to telling you, "don't show me your dimples...I don't want to see them!" and it worked like a charm!

My Dearest William,

My, how the time has flown and you have made it no less than interesting, to say the least!  Words leave me when I try and think about how to describe my love for you.  I knew I was in for it the first night of your life.  I remember holding you - in my arms - all night long that first night at the hospital.  I would start to nod off into a deep sleep and just then, you would cry out because you wanted my full and undivided attention!  Nothing's changed in three years!  Here are just a few things that make you, YOU and that make me love you so!

  • I love how you are passionate about the things you love in life.  You don't fancy a lot of different things.  Rather, you are obsessive about a distinct few.  To say you LOVE all things bowling, is a complete understatement!  You are obsessed with Wii Bowling everyday after nap time.
  • I love your perfectly placed dimples just below each of the corners of your insanely beautiful and heart-warming smile!  Just the other day at your 3 year checkup, Dr. Tyson remarked about how those dimples couldn't have been painted on in a more perfect way.  They totally complete your handsome look! (Oh, and you can thank your Daddy for those someday!)
  • I love the fact that you will eat just about anything without poking or prodding it or asking a million questions about it.  You have been a super eater from day one!
  • I love how you look up to your big brother and learn from him each and every day.  You and I don't get to spend a ton of one-on-one time together as far as outings and such, but when we do, you are constantly asking about and looking for Nathan.  You don't want to miss a thing without him!  On the few occasions Nathan has raced out of the car in a hurry and forgotten to give you his goodbye hug and kiss, you are so saddenedby it and it takes lots of bribing to console you!  I am blessed to have two sons whose life-long brotherly bond is one of the most magical things I am privileged to witness.

There are so many things I've grown to love about you in the past three years.  You have been such a blessing to our family and have definitely begun making your mark in this world.  I can't wait to see what you have in store for us over the next few years.  I pray for God to bless you abundantly as you continue to grow and thrive as my beautiful baby boy!  I love you my little Willda!

Here’s how your rounding out thus far:

Physical

You are a sports minded fanatic!  Your top sport is undoubtedly bowling!  You make us laugh and also cry at the same time with your obsessiveness of this sport!  I can't believe that during our most recent vacation to Disney World (for your birthday, no less!), you actually said you'd rather be bowling!  And then, just a few days ago after Nathan's soccer game we were walking back to the car when you picked up a dandelion to make a wish and then blow the dandelion out.  When I asked what you wished for, you smirked at me and said, "I wish I play bowling."  You also have been known to pray for bowling.

Your sports-mindedness doesn't stop there, though.  I have no doubt I will be able to live my dream of being a sports mom with you LOVING to play football (mostly to make or get tackled), golf, t-ball, soccer, and more.  You catch and throw a ball with ease. And most recently when your Grandpa took you to Toys R Us and told you to pick out any toy you wanted, you clung tight to a big, bouncy yellow ball that sits in our basement today.  There's no doubt about it - you love your sports!  I can't wait for you to start little league EVERYTHING!

You are quite animated when you sing, dance or do your "robot" dance while we're at Kindermusik or just home hanging out.  You are most definitely NOT too shy to show off your mad dance moves!

One of your favorite things to do is jump on the beds.  You've suffered the consequences for it before too.  But, it didn't stop you from doing it the next time!

You love punching.  Not maliciously necessarily, but one of your favorite things to say when you don't like what's being asked of you is, "how 'bout punch?"- meaning, "how 'bout I punch you?".  Truly hilarious.  Especially when you did that to Grammy!  You know you are only allowed to punch two people - Daddy and Grandpa.  But that usually doesn't stop you from doing it to others.  We are working on this with you, but I am afraid the Wii Boxing game doesn't help much!

You have zero interest in potty-training, seriously.  You even admitted to your doctor last week that you don't and when she asked if you'd rather be in diapers than be in big-boy underwear, you replied with a resounding "yes!"  She reassured me you'd be potty trained by college, but I don't know!  I am sure you will let us know when you are ready and for now we won't make a huge deal of it, but I am hoping you will show some interest soon!

Social

You like to be around other kids and play with them.  You enjoy outings and like to be out and about - to an extent.  You play well with others (most of the time) and have recently begun to get better about not snatching toys away from others and sharing.  Of course, you're three, so there's still a lot of growing and maturing on your part.

Emotional

You have recently begun telling me you love me - A LOT!  You're a cuddler and love to just sit on the couch and watch some tv while I stroke your hair or scratch your head.   You cry easily and are so very attached to your big brother.  We're working with you on trying to use your words more instead of whine at times when you are hurt, angry or frustrated.  It's a work in progress, of course, but we'll get there.

You love your family and love spending time at home with us.  You're not a complicated boy - you love family, food, and good 'ol fashioned fun!  You'll randomly ask to call or talk to different people like Grammy or Grandpa because you miss them.

You are a brave boy!  Usually when you get hurt or get a boo-boo, you'll need little-to-no consolation.  You easily get over things on your own.

You love having your picture taken but don't cooperate too well!  It seems you're always looking away from the camera right as the shot is being taken, or choose to not smile! In many of the pics we have of you, you were certainly not camera-ready - you appear quite serious or are looking the opposite way!  Oh well, you're still a cutie on camera!

Intellectual

You love reading books that rhyme.  Your favorite book right now is the firefighter one on my nightstand where you like to name all the parts of the equipment at the end.  You know are so ready for preschool this fall!  You like to play on the calculator and call out random numbers and you like working on your alphabet train puzzle.  You have mastered your ABCs and counting to at least twenty (from what I remember!).  You are starting to ask more questions about things as you see the world move by.  You also have learned about stoplights and what they mean and love to call out the light's color and command to me while driving.  You know your shapes and colors as well.

Foods You Eat

Just about everything!  Here are your faves:

Spaghetti
Mu-shu (homemade by Daddy)
Salad with Ranch dressing
Pizza
Chicken nuggets & fries
Watermelon (this is a recent obsession and it's you and mommy's own little treat!)
You love apple juice and milk and will usually ask for whatever big brother is having and enjoy saying, "That's two milks!" to me.

Some of your favorite sweet treats include: cookies, ice cream, grapes or clementines, cupcakes, laffy taffy and candy in general.

Things you like to play

Bowling (with your many bowling sets)
Bowling on the Wii
Bowling on the computer
Bowling in real life!
Football
Golf
Baseball
Light sabers with your brother
Tag
Blocks (usually knocking them down in an effort to mimic bowling).

What you want to be when you grow up (at the moment):

Police officer
Bowler

My own little "Super Marios".

Last week while on vacation at The Dis, we visited Epcot and both Nathan and Will got to star in their very own video games!

Nathan has some great moves in his game that you can play right online for the next 20 days or so.  I kept having to help Will figure out when it was time to do what, so in his online game you'll notice part of me appears at various times.  It was still fun though and they had a great time playing themselves in a video game.

I just wish there was some way to save the games before they expire.

Week seventeen.

It's been a while since I've posted any pregnancy updates, and a couple of weeks since my last photo.  I had Will take this one of me this week.

As you can see, I've definitely been growing into my own!  I am quite pleased, though, that I'm still wearing my regular size clothes...well, with the help of this little nifty invention.  I'll have plenty of time to wear those wonderful little demi-panel pants and maternity tanks, but for now I am staying away from them!  That is, until, my hips decide to take on a life of their own and I'll be forced into stretch jeans.  Ew!

I am still experiencing some nausea but mostly at night or when I don't eat constantly.  I am hoping it will taper off someday soon, but who knows?  It could last the whole time as it has for a few of my friends!

Will is constantly telling me he's going to punch me in the belly.  Not maliciously, of course - his two favorite things are bowling and boxing.  David and I joke about how he's already hitting his little brother!  Yes, we both still think it's a boy.  But, we'll be finding out on May 18th, so mark your calendars!

No real food cravings yet, but I have polished off an awful lot of watermelon lately!

We're back!

We made it back a few days ago from our Disney trip and I am still recovering from all the laundry we have!  But, it was all totally worth it.  We had a such a fabulous time!

Will turned THREE and got to celebrate with his favorite Disney characters.  The weather was awesome and we got tons of sun!  The kids are so tanned....I think they've got their adequate dosage of Vitamin D.

So, it's back to our regular routine and also some exciting stuff coming up that I'll be discussing the first part of May here on my blog!  For now, enjoy the 400+ photos from our trip!

Fun with JoJo at Disney

We had an awesome lunch today at my favorite character dining place, Hollywood & Vine at Hollywood Studios.

Nathan and Will had fun with JoJo, Goliath, and June & Leo from Little Einsteins. We're having a blast and looking forward to lots more before we head home.1239901406979.jpg

More magical memory making!

Disney on Ice at Kemper Arena in Kansas City last night was fantastic!  We all had such a great time.  Our favorite Disney characters, popcorn, cotton candy, silly hats - what more could you want out of family entertainment?

We got to take part in a special VIP meet-and-greet session where we arrived a little early to enjoy refreshments, a goodie bag, and meet Minnie!  The kids were excited!  We told her she needed to get back down to Orlando soon since we'd be there after Easter to see her and the gang!

After the VIP party, we went to find our seats which were more like box seats!  They were great!  We settled in and enjoyed seeing the rest of the general public trickle in before the show.  Of course the food and merchandise vendors were in full force but we made the kids hold out a bit on getting anything.

Nathan and I headed up about 20 minutes before showtime to grab some popcorn, cotton candy and lemonade for the show.  The music, the lights, the sights - the kids were in awe!  We were able to see some of our favorite Disney characters like Ariel, Lilo & Stitch, Simba, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and of course the usual suspects - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, & Goofy!

This was a perfect precursor to our upcoming Disneyworld trip coming up in just a little more than a week!  I need to get packing!

Not exactly a Circus for 5 year-olds.

I certainly hope I am not the only one out there who feels this way, but I was totally irked by something I heard while listening to the radio today.   Let me explain.

Britney Spears is in concert tonight in Kansas City and one of our local radio stations was giving away front row tickets for the show.  They did that whole thing where they talk about the finalists then say, "let's call the winner now!" as if they hadn't already dialed and pre-recorded the whole thing.  But, whatever.

So, they dial the number and a man picks up. They then ask for his wife, the person they were trying to reach to notify that she'd won.  The guy politely tells them that she's in class at the moment so the radio DJs proceed to explain to him that his wife was a finalist for the concert tickets and that she is indeed the winner.  The guy seems pretty excited about it, stating that his wife absolutely loves Britney and that she will undoubtedly be excited about it when she finds out.

Then the female DJ proceeds to ask him if they have a daughter and he says they do.  She then asks him how old she is.  He replies that she's five years old.  Then, the DJ says to him, "oh, wow!  She must LOVE Britney, right??"!  And he then replies that of course she does, just like the mom.

That's where my eyes started rolling.

C'mon, five??  Really?  Now, maybe I have no place being irritated, after all I have no daughters (and I make NO apologies or complaints about that, mind you!), but I know and am friends with MANY moms who do and I can't EVER see ANY of them being okay with their five year-old listening to, watching, and especially LOVING Britney!  I mean, I have a five year-old son and I like the occasional hip-hop tunes myself, but in NO way could I see myself over-exposing my kids to artists that I think are out of their demographic!  Am I the only one who sees it this way?  Isn't five years-old much too young to be interested in an artist like Britney?  Shouldn't that five year-old be listening to a Kindermusik CD or something from Funky Mama or Mr. Stinky Feet or The LaLa's?

I was totally shocked at how the radio DJs were playing it up too, saying things like, "oh, your daughter will be so happy when she's sixteen and someone tells her that she got to sit in the front row of a Britney concert!"  Really?  I'd be a little embarrassed - and worried - that my mom even took me to a Britney concert at five!

Maybe I'm too strict of a mom.  Maybe there's a reason I don't have daughters and that's all good with me for now.
