One-kid outing.

Today Will and I headed out to Union Station for the one-day Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour event passing through.

I must admit I felt a bit guilty taking Will without Nathan.  It's the first outing ever that's been just Will & I.  While I was excited to take him, I coudn't help but wonder what Nathan was doing during his second day of full-day Kindergarten.

But, I digress.

If the tour is coming through your neck of the woods, I HIGHLY recommend you make the trip to see it!  We had such fun walking through the train cars filled with costumes, props, and more all in celebration of the Charles Dickens classic!  Did I mention this event is completely FREE?!

Will & I enjoyed seeing our faces morphed into a few of the movie characters using the HP technology touchscreens.  But the best part was going out to the movie tent located near the train cars and catching a sneak peek at the 3-D movie coming out this November!

I can't wait to take the kids!  It's almost enough to make me want to skip Fall and go right into Winter, but .... not quite! The movie is so cinematic and the effects are unlike anything I've ever seen before!  Hope you'll get a chance to enjoy it with your family!

Summer bowling is back!

Last Friday I took the kids bowling for the first time this summer.  I am certain it won't be our last!  We've already lined up to meet my dear pal, Krista, and her two boys for bowling one day over the next week or so, and plus, it is SO dirt cheap since I signed the kids up for very cool bowling coupons all summer long!

Will, my youngest, of course LOVES bowling more than life itself and was beyond ecstatic when I announced that we were going to a real, LIVE bowling alley!  All in all, a very good use of six bucks for a fun-filled activity.  I'm sharing a couple of my favorite pics from our outing, but feel free to check out the other photos

Nathan with pretty good form!

About to get down to SERIOUS bidness!

Ooooh, yeah! Picked up the spare!

Memorial Day Weekend recap.

This past weekend was SO AWESOME!  My mom, stepdad, and brother came into town to be on official "Natha & Will duty" while I was working the weekend at Jiggle Jam.  It was another fantastic festival and a good time was certainly had by all.  It has quickly become the hottest family festival in the country, with many other cities looking to do the same thing in their towns.  It's truly an honor and blessing to serve on the board of the festival and I am already eager to help plan the next one!

Of course the weekend was full of rockin' out music for kids and adults, face painting, funnel cakes, my favorite festival food, and wonderfully fun activities for the kids.  It was so cool to see some of my (and the kids) favorite national acts in 'da house, like these guys, them, and of course him

David and my brother were troopers and helped us as volunteers at the festival, where it was steamy and in the 80s pretty much all weekend!  I totally enjoyed the outdoors and have a fab sunglasses tan on my face to prove it!  Here are some of the weekend's highlights:

Pet Pals Day at the Farm.

Since soccer was cancelled today due to rain (again!) I decided to take the kids to Pet Pals Day at Deanna Rose Farm - one our favorite places!  I still think it's hands-down - the best place to take your kids for an outing here in Kansas City!

The day was a little too chilly for my blood, but it was partly sunny so it turned out to be a nice day to walk around and check out the exhibits on hand for this special event.  Of course, the kids still had fun with the usual suspects - feeding the goats, playing on the red playscape, and enjoying the trike ride-ons.

I kept having to retake this picture because Will would NOT look at the camera!  I think he was distracted by the free chocolate milk!  The kids enjoyed getting a bottle all to themselves, courtesy of Anderson Erickson Dairy!

We all enjoyed yummy grape popsicles, courtesy of Blue Bell - my personal favorite!  These were so good I could hardly believe they were free!

Will had fun with the baby goats, especially.  He kept asking to please touch their ears!  He has such a thing for ears - human or otherwise!

Nathan was picked for taking part in a dog safety presentation.  He was so cute interacting with the pets there!

More magical memory making!

Disney on Ice at Kemper Arena in Kansas City last night was fantastic!  We all had such a great time.  Our favorite Disney characters, popcorn, cotton candy, silly hats - what more could you want out of family entertainment?

We got to take part in a special VIP meet-and-greet session where we arrived a little early to enjoy refreshments, a goodie bag, and meet Minnie!  The kids were excited!  We told her she needed to get back down to Orlando soon since we'd be there after Easter to see her and the gang!

After the VIP party, we went to find our seats which were more like box seats!  They were great!  We settled in and enjoyed seeing the rest of the general public trickle in before the show.  Of course the food and merchandise vendors were in full force but we made the kids hold out a bit on getting anything.

Nathan and I headed up about 20 minutes before showtime to grab some popcorn, cotton candy and lemonade for the show.  The music, the lights, the sights - the kids were in awe!  We were able to see some of our favorite Disney characters like Ariel, Lilo & Stitch, Simba, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and of course the usual suspects - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, & Goofy!

This was a perfect precursor to our upcoming Disneyworld trip coming up in just a little more than a week!  I need to get packing!

First picnic of the season.

For those of you in KC, you'll remember back to a couple of weekends ago when we had that SUPER-nice day outside.  Perfect picnic and kite-flying weather.  The kids and I headed to a local park and had our first picnic of the season.  Here's hoping there's tons more to come!

A carriage ride.

The kids and I partook in a carriage ride through a nearby shopping center this Saturday.  Talk about fun!  And, it was FREE, so that was even better!  We almost went back again on Sunday but temps were so frigid so we decided against it.

The weather was perfect for the carriage ride - not too cold or too hot - just a little windy.  The kids got to visit with Santa for a few minutes and then we were the first ones on for the ride! W enjoyed getting to hear the horses neigh a few times during our ride and I enjoyed window shopping from my seat!

Trying to say "cheese" while sucking on candy canes from Santa.

Immediately after this snapshot, W went up to the horse on the far right and touched his nose.

This is what I get for asking a random stranger to take a pic of us. I am not sure what the heck she was doing snapping it here and thinking she got the shot.  I was waiting for a few more people to board the carriage which is why I asked her to hold off on taking it.  Thanks a lot, lady!

My boys' first tea party.

This past Sunday the kids and I attended the much anticipated Nutracker Tea Party.  The show has been sold out for weeks and I was so thrilled to help promote it as a sponsor.  In exhcange I received a sponsor table for ten and we invited our friends Alexander, John Paul, and Cole and of course their moms.  In an audience almost all full of girls, our table of boys stood out and were the handsomest ever!

>

After checking to get our seat assignments, we headed for our table and found the most wonderfully appointed tablescape imaginable.  It was beautifully done and the boys loved it too!  We waited for the rest of our guests to show up while the boys got acquainted with all of the dinnerware at the table.

Shortly afterwards everyone showed up and the servers began bringing food to the table.  There was a nice little array of kid-friendly fare like turkey and cheese mini-sandwiches, crossaints with pb & j, cheese and fruit, and of course holiday cookies.  The kids were in heaven.

N's favorite part about all the great food and drink was the fact that he got to do something he's never done before.  He was enjoy three different beverages at the same time!  We of course had glasses water at the table but then a few of the boys ordered chocolate milk and then a while later our server was gracious enough to bring out fruit punch in festive glasses for all the kids at the table.  I just remember him saying over and over again, "I'm drinking THREE drinks!" as if it were a breaking news story!

Soon after, it was time for the show to start and we all turned our chairs to get comfy for the performance.  I was excited!  Probaby even moreso than the kids were.  Then again, I think Angie, Erin and I (the moms) were all very excited to be experiencing this with our sons.

The show was fantastic and W kept getting out of his seat to dance, twirl, leap, and jump along with many of the songs (and dancers)!  The boys' favorite part was when the nutcracker took away the crown from the mice (rat, really).

W loved the music and at one point during the show started in with his "dum, dee, dee, dee dum, dum, dum, dum, duuuummmm," attempting to sing along with the song!  Then when I tried to shush him he let out a "NO, MAMA!!".  I, of course, loved watching the graceful ballerinas.  N could hardly believe it when I told him that they were dancing on their tiptoes!

All too soon it was all over and we of course appluaded the performers and the orchestra.  The entire experience was such fun and I think I've established a new tradition with my boys.  N keeps asking if Nutcracker Tea Party only happens when it's winter time.  I answer him yes, to which he replies, "ooh, then I can't wait for winter again!"

You can't teach your kids manners if you, yourself don't have them.

Last night we went out for our usual Tuesday night dinner at Godfather's Pizza.  Apparently, word of their Tuesday night kids eat free promo has gotten out.  There was a soccer party going on in the party room and a kids' birthday party in another part of the dining room.  Not to mention, their usual crowd of a few families out for dinner.

The staff was obviously unprepared for feeding such a large crowd.  D waited in a long line just to pay, while the kids and I sat at a booth and were able to get drinks.  I settled them into their seats and went off to get pizza for them and myself.  Oh, and of course a salad for W.

As dinner went on, people would make their way up to the buffet line and stand there, waiting for pizzas to come out of the oven.  Like I said, the staff was a little behind.  The kids had eaten quite a few pieces of pizza and were soon ready for the yummilicious dessert pizza.  I looked over and noticed of course, that there wasn't any.  A few other kids in the restaurant had made their way over to the buffet area by this time and were all lined up chanting, "we want dee-ssert pizza, we want dee-sert pizza" and I could tell the man behind the counter was feeling the pressure.

Luckily, a few moments later he proudly set down a freshly prepared dessert pizza and the chanting ceased.  I immediately made my way over to the back of the line behind the small kids who had already been standing there for some time.  I had planned to get dessert pizza for D, N, W, and myself so that I wouldn't have to go back up.  So, I get in line and then see the guy behind the counter put out a second dessert pizza.  Score!  By this time, a few people had gotten in line behind me and were anxiously awaiting their slice of the bubbly hot dessert.

And then a woman from the dining area made her way (accompanied by her elementary age daughter) over to the beginning of the line, near the newly placed dessert pizzas.  Yes, she had in fact gotten right in front of those darling little children who had been chanting for the pizza, and began to reach over them to grab a few servings of it.  She quickly told her daughter, "hurry, go get a plate, go get a plate", when I looked at her and said while motioning to the back of the line, "line's back here, lady."

She pretended not to hear.

Again, I said (and this time, a little louder), "LINE'S BACK HERE, LADY!"  She then replied, "uh-er, no, well, we've already been through the line once" (as IF that made a flippin' difference!) and I then replied to her, "yeah, so have I but this is for my kids, so get in line".

She quickly put the spatula down and rolled her eyes and got in back.  Good thing, too because by the time I got up to the front of the line, there were only a few pieces of dessert pizza left.  Not saying anything to her would've meant my kids having to wait for their dessert pizza, and I was not having that happen.  By the time she got up to the front of the line, the dessert pizza was out and she and her daughter had to wait a few more minutes for another one to be brought out.

While she was standing there I heard her say something to another woman in line. Something to the effect of, "I would've said something but I don't know...she could've had a gun in her purse".  I glared at her. She stared back at me.  I continued to stare back at her.  She looked away first.  Yeah, that's what I thought, lady.  Don't get into a mad-dogging competition with me.  I'll win it every time.

I told D what I wanted to say to her after hearing that comment she made was, "don't be silly, I don't have a gun in my purse.  It's in my glovebox."  Just kidding.  Just because I'm from Texas, doesn't mean I carry a gun.

But still, don't mess with me or my kids' dinner.

What a weekend!

Blogging has taken a bit of a backseat for the past few days, and I must say, I did indeed miss it!  Check out all the fun we've been having here in the T household!

W got to meet his second favorite local mama .... Funky Mama, that is!  I think N would've been in this pic too if he could have peeled himself away from playing with the construction vehicles at PBK.  Both the kids (and, I, of course) had a rockin' good time enjoying some very cool tunes!  If you haven't yet picked up any of Krista's fab music for your holiday traveling or even just for some fantastical stocking stuffers (no, it's not too early to start thinking about those either), hop on over to Funky Mama's site and pick up a couple!

The kids and I cannot stop singing Take Me for a Taco and N loves the beat of Onomotopoeia, both from her Grandma's House cd.  And, I can guarantee if you're a mom, you will think Krista wrote Multi-Taskin' Mama from the Moo Juice cd, with you in mind!  Love it!

On Saturday it was off to the church Halloween party where the kids enjoyed decorating cookies, making crafts, and running around with their ghost and goblin friends.

And on Sunday, we all joined him for his end of season soccer pizza party at CiCi's pizza.  N was super proud to add yet another soccer trophy to his growing collection, and of course enjoyed seeing his friends.  He's set to start raquetball next week with a few of them so I am looking forward to seeing how that goes.

Glad to be back on the blog wagon.  Can you believe it's Halloween already this week?
