Get over Go Daddy and the Super Bowl ad.

It won't stop.  The comments, that is, about the recent Go Daddy commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.  Here are my thoughts.

First off, I didn't see the commercial air live, as we were out to dinner with my inlaws and {thankfully} missed it along with the first hour of the game.  I watched it later on DVR and even though I was repulsed, did not find myself surprised.

Then came the slew of comments on my Facebook wall and Twitter feed about how people were now going to change where they registered their domains -- from Go Daddy to some other service -- all because of this poor taste in ad choice.  Personally, I think that's absurd.  I mean, sure the ad is not exactly enticing or in great taste, but did we really expect it to be?  I mean if the past few Super Bowl ads have been any indication, this is exactly the kind of commercial we should all come to expect from Go Daddy.  If you have kids and are worried about them seeing this kind of repulsiveness, then prepare for it.  You know it's coming.

The same can be said about the {in my opinion: lousy} performance by Beyonce during the half-time show.  I'll preface by saying first off that I am NOT a fan of Beyonce's as it is.  Her music doesn't gel with me and in my opinion, she just doesn't appeal to me as an artist.  But, it's BEYONCE for crying out loud.  We all know there's going to be gyrating and booty-shaking and lots of skin showing.  Why are so many people "disgusted" and in shock about how "sleazy" of a show it was?  Actually, I personally didn't think it was all that bad.  I was actually quite bored.  It's nothing we've not seen from Beyonce before, but certainly not beyond what one could expect.  

Am I saying that I enjoyed being subjected to the awkwardness of the Go Daddy commercials or the sight of Beyonce's thighs?  No, not necessarily.  But, I'm not getting my panties in a wad for it all because hey, it's not like I would have expected anything different.  As much as we'd all like to think it's "family friendly tv", it's not.  We all know that.  To be honest, I am more concerned with my kids being exposed to the ads that glorify alcohol consumption, more than the ones that have sexual connotations.  But, knowing this about myself, it's MY responsibility to shield them from watching the ads, not my job to complain that they are part of the show.  

People forget one thing in all this.  The Super Bowl is selling ads.  And the advertisers are going for the jugular in many cases when it comes to their ads.  We have known this for decades and yet every year it seems someone complains about the commercials or raunchy-ness of the half-time show.  This is what makes the Super Bowl the Super Bowl.  You can't get this stuff anywhere else!

So since you know it's coming, either watch it or don't.  But complaining about it is counter-productive.  It will always remain the Super Bowl.

I've always said it's no coincidence that I've found myself as the mother of a house full of boys.  I am such a sports fanatic and love that there's no shortage of sports-minded males in my brood.  And, when it comes to sports, football is the ultimate!! So, I jumped at the chance to share this new fun twist on the ol' Super Bowl commercials we've all come to anticipate and love.  Keep reading!

The Coca-Cola Company is excited about the debut of their new 60-second commercial entitled “Mirage” during this year's big game.  The ad follows three groups of characters – a band of cowboys, a gang of “Badlanders” and {my personal fave} a pack of Vegas-style showgirls – as they chase after a coveted & elusive bottle of Coca-Cola.  But what makes this spot one-of-a-kind is that the fans will actually determine who will win the race!  Fans are invited and encouraged to log on to CokeChase.com to vote for their favorite group of peeps while slowing down the others' progress by initiating fun acts of sabotage.  At the end of the game, it will be the fans' actions that will actually dictate how the story plays out and which one of three 30-second ads will air following the final whistle of the big game.  This is a first for The Coca-Cola Company.

I'm also looking forward to tracking my character pick - the Vegas style showgirls - over on Coca-Cola’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.  There will be real-time updates on the progress of the race.  You can also keep track of exclusive Coke Chase character content and get a behind-the-scenes look on Tumblr and Instagram.

Fans can also show some love to their favorite group of characters and root for their pick by using special hashtags #CokeShowgirls, #CokeCowboys, or #CokeBadlanders.  If you cast a vote ongame-day by tweeting @CocaCola along with your group's fave hashtag, you'll also get responses from the team, including a link to the sabotage page on CokeChase.com where you can continue the fight in the race!

Then, as the final whistle blows after the Super Bowl, Coca-Cola will reveal the winner of the Coke Chase based on the fans' participation in the form of a 30-second commercial that completes the race and storyline.  I'm sure it will be a fight that comes down to the bitter end!  I can't wait!

SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis: A football fan favorite

It's certainly no secret that around here we love football season.  One of the most fun things about football season is of course -- football food!  SNICKERS® has recently introduced their new SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis in Walmart stores everywhere just in time for your pigskin parties.

The new SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis are miniature versions of the SNICKERS® bar that we all know and love that are all wrapped in NFL team logos.  These make them the perfect snack treat this football season while you're sitting watching the games.

Football has been in my family for quite some time.  I remember as a little girl, sitting down with my Dad who always had the Dallas Cowboys game BLARING from our console TV.  I just grew up with football on all the time so now that I have my own kids I find myself reliving it all over again!  What's funny is that I think my Dad was such a die hard Cowboys fan, that it actually gave me an aversion to the team.  No, seriously.  I just can't really bring myself to cheer for them now. (Shhh! Don't tell my Dad that)!  Instead I now cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs since my kids are KC born and proud, plus I do have to admit that I like their program a lot better than the Cowboys'.  Just sayin.  I also have to add that the Chiefs look darn good this year so we'll see how the season ends up.

I also remember taking my youngest brother out for the first ever Houston Texans game out at Reliant Stadium. Wow, what a beautiful place that is!  My brother and I (we both lived in Austin at the time) rented a convertible and drove up to Houston for the game.  We had end zone seats which ended up being perfect and we were able to watch Houston dominate Dallas and win their first-ever home game!  Such a great memory!

And now, as a mom, I am making football memories with my 3 sons.  Two of them are old enough to actually play football so they do and my husband coaches both teams.  My 3rd grader is in his second year of tackle football and my 1st grader is in his 2nd year of flag.  He's so excited to move up to tackle (a.k.a., "real" football") next year and frankly, so am I!  In the fall we live, eat and breathe football!

Treats for the tackle football team! TCBY Frozen Novelties #TCBYGrocery #CBias

The 3rd grade football team was just a little excited about their TCBY frozen treats!

It's that time of year again -- football season!  While I'm a HUGE fan of college football, I've become equally obsessed with my own kids' teams.  My hubs coaches the 3rd graders team and will be coaching the Kindergarten/1st grade flag football team this season too.  I know, I know...two teams...we must be crazy, right?  Yep, crazy for FOOTBALL!!! But, do you know what the 3rd grade football players went crazy for recently? 

Some yummy TCBY frozen novelties!!  This past week was the first week of practice for the team and at the end of the long week, I had the pleasure of treating the team to TCBY chocolate fudge bars, which can be found at Walmart stores everywhere.  It was just as fun to shop for our treats as it was to treat the team!

These kids on the team worked so hard all week.  Some of them have never played tackle football before and it's fun to see the excitement in their eyes and see them get so pumped about playing.  Others are returning players from our team last year and I'm impressed with just how much they've retained what they learned.  The team worked mostly on conditioning this past week which meant TONS of running and usual football drills.  And of course, some light scrimmaging and running plays.

I just look at this and it makes me happy! Doesn't this look like such FUN?!!

It's hard to not be proud of their hard work.  And it looks like Coach agrees.  He huddled them up and thanked them for their dedication and talked a bit about how exciting the upcoming season is going to be!

And then it was time to TREAT THE TEAM TO TCBY frozen novelties!!  They went a little crazy.

 Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?  I certainly am!  Few things make me excited about the Fall season, but football is certainly one of them!  As I mentioned in a previous post, my family is a die-hard fan of the sport and we look forward to watching games together and having fun football-filled weekends.

We recently picked up the ALL NEW EA Sports NCAA Football 13 at Walmart for our PS3 video game system.  The game launched in stores on July 10th and the kids were oh-so-excited to bring it home!  You can see an overview of our entire shopping trip and purchase at Walmart over on my Google+ story here.

The kids and I were excited about heading out for a day of errands and they were freakishly excited about going shopping for a video game! What can I say?  I defintely got lots of mom-of-the-year type treatment that day!

So we all know EA Sports for the innovative gaming features that they bring to video game play.  Well, there are some uber-cool features about the all new NCAA Football 13.  One of them is the option to add a former Heisman trophy winner to your team lineup!  I will say, I was disappointed that former Texas Heisman greats like Ricky Williams and Earl Campbell weren't part of the lineup, but it's still a cool feature nonetheless.  My husband really gets into that whole aspect of having a former Heisman great on his team and enjoys talking to our sons about what the Heisman actually is and what kind of prestige comes along with such an honor.

My kids also enjoy the "mascot mashup" mode on the game where they had Bevo going head-to-heat with Miami Hurricane's mascot, Sebastian the Ibis on the field!  It was pure hilarity in my living room!  I love that about this game - the fact that the whole family gets into the excitement and fun of having the video game as part of a family game night!  It's a unique opportunity for us to teach our kids about the fundamental game of football and encourage healthy rivalries and good sportsmanship.

One of the other great things your video game and football fan will love about NCAA Football 13 is the introduction of "Dynamic Dynasty".  This takes recruiting a step further with dynamic recruiting pitches.  For the first time ever, your recruiting grades can change each week based on your performance in Dynasty mode.  It's amazing how advanced and "with-it" this new version of NCAA Football is!  My little video gamers wouldn't disagree!

State Farm Go To Bat program + Ryan Howard = the winning play

I'm so excited to have the privilege to attend the MLB All-Star FanFest right in my own backyard here in Kansas City with my family!  This morning we were invited to breakfast and the chance to visit with Philadelphia Phillies player Ryan Howard as he talked about his initiative with State Farm on their Go To Bat program. 

Simply put, this new initiative offers baseball fans a chance to support the program’s charities – Boys and Girls Club, Teach for America, Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross – and win a VIP trip for two to a 2012 World Series game.

Fans can engage and play a game online where they hit virtual home runs in an effort to "go to bat" for one of the four charities.  Simply playing the game provides an entry into the contest. To gain additional entries, players can hit home runs, invite their friends to play online, and share their results from the play on various social media outlets.  Then, at the end of each week, one entry is drawn to win a trip to the World Series while the charity they selected wins an $18,000 donation from State Farm.  All of this fun will launch today, July 9, 2012 at the Home Run Derby and will continue on for the next 10 weeks with 10 weekly winners! 

In my talking with Ryan Howard, I realized what a standout guy he really is, not only as an athlete but as a person.  He supports the Boys and Girls Club of America and truly believes in the postitive ways kids can impact this world.  He is also hosting a baseball hitting clinic with the several kids from the organization, and what's so cool is that my kids will actually get to take part in it as well!  They are so excited to be learning from a true pro and great athlete!

It's almost time: football season + NCAA 2013

There are very few things I love about the Fall season.  Anyone who knows me well, knows that I don't tolerate mild or cold weather at all!  I'd take 100+ degree temps and humidity any day over a crisp, cool breeze.  But since I live in the midwest {for now} and the Fall season will be here soon enough, the one thing that keeps me smiling is the thought of another great football season!

That's my oldest son, Nathan, who just two weekends ago picked up his pads and helmet for this year's upcoming little league football season.  I get butterflies when I see this!  There's just something about the sport of football that I absolutely am in LOVE with and get so excited about!  It's definitely in my blood though.  I remember as a kid, my dad would have the TV blaring almost every NCAA college football game on in our living room.  I mean, you can't be from Texas and NOT love football.  It's just not possible.  Or right.

Fast-forward to the present time, with my own family.  Both of my older boys play football - this will be Nathan's second season of tackle football and William's {my 1st grader} second season of flag.  We love having family video game night in our house because it's just so full of laughter, screaming, excitement, and competition!  In this house full of boys, I couldn't ask for a more fun way to spend our weekends with them. We have been enjoying playing NCAA 2012 for Playstation 3 and are SO looking forward to the upcoming release of NCAA 2013 for Playstation 3 later this month to a Walmart store near you!

 

Sports video games are a GREAT opportunity for the hubs and I to teach more about good sportsmanship.

 

Celebrations in our house are definitely Texas-sized!

So, on July 10, 2012 the all new NCAA Football 2013 {#NCAAFootball13} will be available at Walmart retailers, just in time for some summer playdates!  Who says you can't enjoy football in the summer?  When it comes to enjoying on the Playstation 3, Wii, or XBOX 360, it doesn't matter what the temps are outside....any day is a good day for football!

NCAA Football 2013 will also have some amazing new features!  Imagine being able to win it for your school as you play as one of 10 former Heisman Trophy winners under center, in the backfield, or split wide?!  You'll be able to utilize his legendary skills for your favorite college team.  You'll be able choose from these former Heisman greats:

Now, that is quite a lineup!  Another cool feature that is rolling out with NCAA 2013 is "Reaction Time".  With this, the game slows down during key moments, increasing your on-field awareness and opening up more opportunities as you sense things before they happen.  I know my younger son is going to love this feature since he always feels that his older brother has more of and "edge" because of his experience with the game.  I think this feature will make it fun for novice and seasoned video gamers, as it will increase the fun factor of the game.

And, what I am most looking forward to by far about the new NCAA Football 2013 is the EA Sports You’re Covered Program that will be coming out with the game on July 10th.  This one-of-a-kind program gives gamers the ability to upload their photo online and print a custom game cover featuring their face on the body of an NCAA Football 13 player!  How amazeballs is that??  I know my older two boys will be fighting over whose face gets to grace the cover, but I know what team will be represented on the cover -- Texas Longhorns!  I know that you and your kids would have a ball designing and printing your custom game cover once the game and this program launch!  I can't wait to present the covers as gifts to my kids and watch their eyes as they see them for the first time!  This would be such a cool gift idea for that kid, teen or even adult that loves college football!  So many fun ideas with this one!

Olympic Swimming Trials make for exciting TV! #SwimToday

The past week has been an exciting one on NBC!  I hope you've been able to catch some of the "heat" and fun of the USA Swimming trials.  The final events of the trial will be tomorrow, July 2, 2012. It has been unreal watching and cheering on Michael Phelps & Dara Torres from our home living room!

What's even more exciting is that there will be a LIVE Twitter party tomorrow, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time where you can join in and cheer on Dara Torres in real time as she swims!   The party will last an hour, and I hear there will be some FABULOUS prizes as you tweet about swimming and cheering on Dara throughout.  To follow along and join in the fun, you can follow hashtag #SwimToday.

With this 100+ degree heat, swimming has definitely been on the forefront of our kids' minds! They have gotten so excited about the swim team details I've been able to find out more about thanks to the resources on the SwimToday.org website.

I had actually received an invite to attend the trials in Omaha on Monday July 2nd, but because my son has baseball commitments, I will be staying here at home. I am a bit bummed that I won't be able to witness all of the excitement first hand but know that another wonderful blogger will be there to follow along and share it all with us!

The swim trials coming to a close this week just make it such a wonderful way to mark America's Independence Day...I am so grateful and proud of our country AND the wonderful athletes who represent our nation!

Motorola Xoom Movie Studio is da' bomb!

I have been using my Motorola Xoom's video feature almost daily.  Seriously.  It's THAT good and THAT easy to incorporate into my everyday routine of running around with my kids to their daily activties.

I've been able to capture video of their football games, their violin lessons, and other random cuteness.  Like this:

It was totally filmed and edited ON the Motorola Xoom tablet itself using the Movie Studio software it comes with.  I LOVE this software!  It is SO easy to use and you can add audio, edit clips, add text overlays and transitions, and more!

It was totally filmed and edited ON the Motorola Xoom tablet itself using the Movie Studio software it comes with.  I LOVE this software!  It is SO easy to use and you can add audio, edit clips, add text overlays and transitions, and more!

I have been using my Motorola Xoom's video feature almost daily.  Seriously.  It's THAT good and THAT easy to incorporate into my everyday routine of running around with my kids to their daily activties.

I've been able to capture video of their football games, their violin lessons, and other random cuteness.  Like this:
