I'm not sure why the Tooth Fairy started a tradition like this, as it could certainly break her. Turns out, she thought it would be a good idea to give $1 that corresponds to what number of tooth it was that was lost. And, in addition, a shiny new Sacagawea dollar.
I guess the Tooth Fairy didn't really think about just how many teeth kids actually lose!
So, if she were to continue on this path of giving, it looks like my Nathan will be $5 + 1 Sacagawea dollar richer tomorrow morning! Yes, he lost his 5th tooth today.
It became very wiggly last night and I was certain he'd lose it before bedtime. Wrong. Then today after school I found out that it was just after lunch that the whole bleeding tooth situation went down. The kind school nurse gave him a cute little plastic tooth-shaped holder to put it in for safekeeping until the Tooth Fairy comes for it.
Tonight when transferring it into the little red zipper pouch that has become the customary under-the-pillow-tooth-holder in our household, Nathan said out loud, [to his tooth] "you're going with the Tooth Fairy tonight, little tooth!". And then he smiled and zipped it shut.
Oh, how I will miss these days as I know they are numbered. Trying to cherish every last drop of childhood goodness and innocence that warm my heart each and every day with these little blessings in my life!
And that is why my kids just get the gold dollar coin. Rumor has it she's got a baggie full of them in her underwear drawer that will last through about 6 more teeth.

Our tooth fairy gives out whatever spare change she can scrape together. I did read somewhere, however, that the average tooth fairy gives out $3 per tooth. We must have a REALLY cheap tooth fairy because our tooth fairy is never able to find that much change. :)
