I love days like today. No real plans this morning ended up being the impetus for some impromptu fun. Actually, I had thought that my new book study group was starting today and we are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. So, after dropping off my 2 bigs at school this morning, I came back home to shower, wash my hair, get dressed and was out-the-door ready by 9 a.m. I took another glance at the email that had all the book club details {like the gal's home address of where we were meeting} only to discover that we actually start meeting next week. All dressed up and nowhere to go, I thought we could still make the most of our morning until I sent my sweet boy off to only his 2nd afternoon of preschool.
So, we hopped in the car and headed to the farmstead park which is just minutes from our house. It's free admission Monday thru Thursday and usually it gets crowded very fast. Jacob was ecstatic that he was getting to go "feed the animals", as he's been asking to do every weekend when we pass by there on our way to soccer or baseball. It couldn't have been a more pleasant morning.
He had the BEST time feeding ducks, geese, and goats. He played on the playground and enjoyed the fresh sunshine and warm air. After being with all four kids all summer, and adjusting to an infant in our mix, I'd forgotten how much fun it was just to have outings with my big little boy. I am kind of excited he'll be doing afternoon preschool instead of mornings {which is what my older two did when they were in preschool} because it will give us time to have mornings like this.
After we'd been at the farmstead for about an hour I told him we needed to go get lunch and then drop him off in time for school. We climbed inside our car to head out. He looked at me with is big brown, loveable eyes and said from the backseat very matter-of-factly the sweetest words ever: "You're the best Mom." I smiled and asked why and then he proceeded to tell me because I take him to feed the animals and do fun things. Then I surprised him by taking him out to lunch - Mac and Cheese at one of his faves - Noodles & Company.
Boy am I glad I was mistaken about our book club meeting today! I can't imagine having missed out on the sweet time and memory-making I had today with my son.
