Germs. As mothers we all know they exist. We know they are everywhere. We know that our kids are exposed to them daily. And yet, I still cannot get past the notion of germs. My sweet Andrew is nearly 6 months old {sniff, sniff} and now more than ever I find myself second guessing everything he touches and nearly everyone that touches him. He's at that stage where he's beginning to bring just about everything to his mouth as soon as it hits his hands. Not to mention, he's hands {and feet!} are finding their way into his mouth as well.
With 3 older brothers constantly touching him and playing with him, it is a major concern that my kids may bring germs home to share with him as well. It's something that I could worry myself to death over but instead, I'm trying to find practical ways to minimize exposure to germs, especially with the fall and winter season knocking steadily on our door.
- I've stocked up on a plethora of germ gel - or, more commonly known as hand sanitizer - to keep and have on hand. Now is a great time to purchase this as many retailers have it all clearanced out from the back-to-school shopping rush. And when purchasing them, consider also the smaller sized bottles for places like the car and in your purse. I also tuck a small bottle into my son's baseball bag and hang one off his school backpack so that it's there when he needs it.
- Instill a habit of frequent hand washing. My kids have been doing this for years. They're completely trained to walk inside the house from school or activities and go straight to wash their hands before touching anyone or anything. It's a great habit to start now if you haven't already.
- Consider purchasing earth {and people} friendly toy and surface wipes. I recently bought a great all natural cleaner to use on toys and surfaces like high chair trays. Now that my baby is getting more used to playing with toys, I'm finding myself wiping them down more often so that they stay as clean as possible for when he decides to put them into his mouth.
- Keep baby's hands and feet clean and washed. I make it a habit to wash my baby's hands as often as possible, especially during bath time. I like to lather them up with soap and rinse well so that I know his hands are squeaky clean. After all, it will only be a matter of minutes until they're back in his mouth!
- Stock your car and purse with a clean change of diapers and wipes while you're on the go. Huggies® Snug & Dry Diapers with NEW SureFit* Design and Huggies Natural Care® Wipes with NEW Triple Clean* Layers are the only choice for me right now. If you've not tried these, you absolutely must! First off, this diaper does its job and beyond. It provides an entire night of leakage protection and fits my baby great which results in fewer messes for me to deal with! I also love how the wipes are durable and strong, yet gentle enough to wipe down noses or dirty hands.
And speaking of the messes babies can make, I love the 3rd webisode featuring Zuleyka Rivera, Huggies spokesperson. She shares her experiences and parenting challenges that we can all appreciate as mothers.
