My sweet Jacob will be 4 on Sunday and although he doesn't yet know it, he'll be getting an iPad mini from his Grammy and Popo for a present, which will positively yield a glowing smile from his face, I am sure. For now, he enjoys using my iPad to watch videos, movies, and of course, play fun and educational games.
Recently we were given the opportunity to review the Wubbzy y El Tren Loco app available on iTunes. Its content rich featuring a slew of fun and educational games, stories, and activities that are perfect for eager toddlers and preschool learners. The fun mini-games are tied into each story and provide unique ways for your kids to practice letter, number, and sight word recognition.
I love the three modes the app can be used in as well. There is "Just a Book" which is perfect for quiet reading along and storytelling, the "Read to Me" mode where kids can follow along with the story, and "Ready & Play" which features interactive "goodies" kids can click along with while the story is being read. I should also mention that each story is available in both Spanish and English which is great for language mastery skills.
The app also features a "Grown Up Corner" which provides a springboard of questions and discussion prompts that parents or caregivers can use alongside the stories to further the kids' understanding of what they've read.
Overall, the app is colorful, fun, interactive, and educational. Jacob was so entralled by all there was to do within the app that I had to peel him away from the iPad after his alloted 20 minutes of playing time. But, he continued to talk about the carnival games and characters from the app throughout the rest of the day. I have a feeling even my 7 and 10 year-olds will have a great time with this app. It keeps you busy and having fun without being annoying, like many game apps can tend to do. I hope you'll consider giving this one a try.
