For me, family is everything! Growing up, I always had not only my immediate family within reach but also much of my extended family. Weekends were spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins at a barbecue or birthday party and little did I realize those would be some of the most important memories of my childhood.
Leslie, the mom of Mexican descent, is a stay at home mom and housewife (like me!) who spends most of her time caring for her two young children, Julio and Amber. The dad, Giovanni, is an entrepreneur in the insurance industry. Like our family, the Lopez crew spends most of their weekends together attending their son's soccer games and supporting his passion for sports. They are close-knit family who enjoys staying active and busy, too.

So what exactly defines a "familia de hoy"? For me, a familia de hoy can mean several different things. I would definitely consider my own family a familia de hoy because we are adaptable to the demands that family life can bring about most days. Being able to flex and change with scheduling demands from school, work, sports, activities, and the like, are what make our family a modern "family of today" or familia de hoy.
We hold sacred our activities that promote family bonding time, while putting our own spin on traditional family experiences. I know for myself that no matter how much of a hassle it can sometimes be to get everyone out of the house on time, that I rarely (if ever) miss one of my kids' sports team games or activities. My husband and I also make sure we encourage all of our kids to support one another by attending such games and rooting them on. I think this is why the Lopez family story resonated with me so much.
How do you define "La Familia de Hoy"?
