{This post is a collaborative effort in conjuction with The Motherhood and Champions for Kids. All opinions expressed are my own. No one is the boss of me!}
We all know that there are children in our communties who are hungry. Plain and simple. Last month I was so privileged and honored to have taken part in a local event that was all about filling a need - hungry kids in my community.
I got to make a trip down to my local Harvesters Community Food Bank and meet that nice guy - NFL player, Dustin Colquitt, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs. We were kicking of a new inititative that will help the food bank to donate fresh milk to kids and their families in my community. What an awesome concept, huh?
And speaking of milk, I was astounded to learn that 9.8 million kids – more than ever before – get free or reduced price school breakfast on an average day. But what's even more staggering is that 10.6 million eligible kids go without that essential meal of the day. I know for my own kids (and others!), hunger plays a huge role on how they perform at school.
If you are concerned about this epidemic like I am, you'll be happy to know that there is a new program making it simple to help kids in communities everywhere. SIMPLE Giving is a Champions for Kids program has partnered up with Kellogg Company and Diamond Foods for a SIMPLE Giving program.
What exactly is the SIMMPLE Giving program, you ask?
It's simple. You can participate by simply purchasing and donating breakfast food items at your local participating Walmart from April 21 through May 5. If your Walmart store is participating, simply purchase breakfast foods and place them in the purple donation bins at the front of the store after checkout.
All of the donations go to children in the school district where the Walmart store is located, so you can be sure that your efforts are paying off right in your own community!

Something even more exciting, is my friends at The Motherhood are joining Champions for Kids along with Kellogg Company and Diamond Foods for a Twitter party (yay!) to spread the word about a simple way we can help ensure that kids in our communities enjoy a nutritious breakfast that will help them stay focused in school! I can't wait to join in, too! During the party we'll be sharing more ways to give in our communities, including Champions For Kids' SIMPLE Service Projects. SIMPLE Service Projects are easy ways for people to help the kids in their own community through four easy steps -- Gather, Learn, Give and Share!
