Growing up, I always felt I had the best teachers. I felt like I had an amazing public school education. It never even occurred to me that a kid could have it any better. I was wrong.
It was a no-brainer decision for hubs and I to send our kids to private school once our oldest started. Even though the public schools are AMAZING here where we live, we couldn't be more happy with our decision. Sure, they're gettting a top-notch education. And, let's not forget that we love the fact that our kids can live their faith at school and talk about the special holidays, celebrations, and traditions we do at home openly. I do love that. But, the best part actually has much to do with the teachers they are blessed to know. I don't know about you, but I feel like I could NEVER do enough to show my appreciation for my kids' teachers.
That's my son William's 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. McDaniel, pictured above. She is also a mom of 2nd graders - two twin boys - who are also William's school mates. She's a soccer mom and a college football fan, just like me. (I won't hold it against her that she roots for the wrong team, though!) But where we differ is in the fact that she is one of the MANY teachers out there who are making a difference in the lives of young people each and every day. She's walking the walk so that our kids (MY William!) can reach his fullest potential in every aspect of his life. And to me, that's a very big deal.
Did you know that teachers spend money every year out of their own pocket for things like basic supplies, special projects, and teaching aids? I know that since we send our kids to private school, this is most certainly true of our teachers. Many times, our teachers go above and beyond because they don't want to sacrifice our kids' learning potential or ability to participate in some fun project due to lack of supplies or funding. But, what's even more eye-opening, is the fact that in underfunded areas, teachers are also going into their own pockets to help those kids who are already at an economic disadvantage.
There are teachers everywhere, not just at my kids' school, who are doing innovative things in the classroom and you can help them do more by donating to the new initiative from Office Depot and Adopt-A-Classroom.
Adopt-A-Classroom is a nonprofit organization that helps connect donors with teachers to enhance the learning environment for students. Their goal is to raise awareness about teachers and all that they do in their commitment to better the lives of their students. And, when you give, you'll receive updates on the kind of impact your donated dollars are making for a teacher and classroom in need.
But don't just take my word for it:
It's easy to support teachers and students as part of this amazeballs initiative. Check it out:
