I received a Junior Explorers sample kit for the purpose of this review. This post was made possible by Mom Spark Media. All opinions are my own.
With my 3rd born son getting ready to start Kindergarten this fall, I am desperately clinging onto the time I have left with him at home and make the best of it. I'm always looking for (easy) ways to incorporate learning and his insatiable appetite for knowledge into fun activities. Enter Junior Explorers. I just love what they're about. They are blazing the trail, being the first kind of program for kids that combine offline and online learning to teach them about our planet! I love their use of technology into the traditional curriculum for learning.
How Junior Explorers Works:
This program allows kids to complete "missions" that explore different ecosystems and animals every month. Each mission includes both offline and online components, like these:
- Delivered home | Each month, Junior Explorers kids receive a kit in the mail. This kit is filled with activities, games, cool collectibles and a secret code. This code is used to unlock the monthly online component that goes along with the mission.
-
Learning online | Once kids log on and unlock their mission, they join Junior Explorers Kia and Kyle in solving a mystery about our planet. Through gamified learning, they follow an engaging narrative and complete games, while earns points and discover new concepts along the way!
-
Giving back | As kids play games online, they earn points that are turned into real donations to nonprofits such as the WWF and the Nature Conservancy. Kids are given a true experience in giving back to the animals and ecosystems they have just learned about!
Your kids are going to love the the Junior Explorer kit that comes in the mail, too. It's filled with fun goodies to get them excited about going on their learning mission! It includes nicely put together materials with all kinds of fun facts about the location where you will be performing the mission. The kit we received for review was all about the Arctic....one of my son's faves since he sleeps with his favorite stuffed polar bear each night! It was fun to go through all of the postcards, stickers, figurines, and more, and talk about them as we learned about the arctic. It's just another great hands-on way to keep kids engaged and interested in learning about their mission.
Once we were all ready, we hopped onto the computer/online portion of exploring our mission. The games and activities on the site were very engaging and age appropriate. Most of all they, were FUN, which is a big "must" with my kids!
Junior Explorers is a great fun for kids ages 5-11. They offer your choice of different packages for the kids, but for just $19 with a $2 shipping fee, it's well worth the month's subscription. I'm also a big fan of the tiered pricing they have - the more monthly kits you buy the more you save!
I absolutely love this idea for holidays or birthdays because it's a present with a purpose! And, one that the kiddo you gift it to, will love again and again!
