I'm excited to be working with SheSpeaks and POWERADE on how we can inspire young athletes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
With 4 boys in the house and one VERY sports-minded hubs, our family embraces year-round sports. The family favorite is, of course, football. But, we stay busy with the other seasonal sports as well. I believe strongly in encouraging and supporting my young athletes to always push themselves out of their comfort zones. When that happens, growth always occurs.
We hear a lot about how today's youth are too competitive and how we should "play down" the notion of winning versus losing. But, I'm in the minority, in that I think it's imperative that we talk to our to them about the desire to win. I support my young athletes by instilling within them, a sense of wanting to win. For I know now as an adult, that desire and that hunger to win, to be better than you were before, is a characteristic that will carry one far in life. Not just in sports, but in all areas of life.
I honestly feel like today's young athletes need to know that if they have the will, or the desire, to work hard and truly want something in life, that it is that very mindset which will carry them far in life. As parents of young athletes, it's our job to show them how to set realistic goals, and always be evaluating, tweaking those goals. Reaching higher for new ones, and celebrating those accomplishments we've worked so very hard for.
POWERADE believes there is potential in all of us. No matter what you achieve in life, you start in the same place as everyone else: as a young person full of potential and big dreams. At the end of the day, we are all “just a kid” from somewhere.
I love that POWERADE believes that with the right motivation, these everyday athletes can realize their potential and one day be the athletes that they look up to.
I am so digging their custom "Just a Kid" apparel that offers a great way to represent where you're from. All net proceeds from the sale of "Just a Kid" apparel goes to the Boys & Girls Club of America. And, check this out! Just a few great reasons I LOVE POWERADE for my young athletes (and why we keep it stocked religiously!!):
- The ION4® Advanced Electrolyte System helps replenish four electrolytes lost in sweat: sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. POWERADE is formulated with a 6% carbohydrate solution to help provide energy to working muscles, and vitamins B3, B6 and B12.
- POWERADE comes in great tasting flavors and has been helping keep athletes hydrated for decades. POWERADE ZEROTM features the same hydration benefits of classic POWERADE but with ZERO calories.
And because not all young athlete's taste buds are created equal, you're going to love the variety of flavors POWERADE offers:
POWERADE flavors:
- Mountain Berry Blast®
- Fruit Punch
- Orange
- Grape
- Lemon Lime
- Mixed Berry
POWERADE Zero flavors:
- Mixed Berry
- Grape Zero
And of course, POWERADE is available for everyday low prices and in multi-pack assortment of sizes at Walmart and Walmart.com.
How do you help inspire the young athletes in your life?

CANDY TAI is a wife to David and mom of 5 with a degree in Communications. She's a native Texan (Hook 'Em Horns!) who's been making her home in the Kansas City metro area for nearly 15 years. She loves being able to shuffle her kids from their various sports activities, piano lessons, and school activities. She enjoys fashion, beauty, reality TV, and moviegoing.
Some really great points here and I tend to agree. Nothing wrong with having the desire to win — it's what motivates you to do your best! Your house sounds a bit like mine however I only have one boy and 2 girls with that very sports minded hubby!

I was completely impressed with the author's point of view. I think that children always have to bring up the desire to win by good training and hard work.
