A wedding for both the bride and groom can be stressful enough but what about those guests will children. It's great if children are invited but it can be somewhat of a challenge to keep them entertained throughout the day. Here are a few tips to keep them under control so that everyone can have a fun day out.
Hire An Entertainer
Hiring an entertainer for any party is great because it keeps your guests from getting bored and it's that extra bit of socialisation that comes in handy, especially for those who may not know many people there. For a wedding, a children’s entertainer like a mime or a magician will definitely keep them occupied and even if it's something that you have for just a couple of hours, you can use them in a key point where they need to be distracted. Once the wedding bands kick in however, they’ll be entertained on the dance floor.
Get Plenty Of Outdoor Games
Whether you get married indoors or outdoors, your venue should have a space for a few outdoor games. It could be a few traditional party games like twister or giant Jenga. Or maybe you have the space for a bigger game like rounders or cricket? Outdoor games will be great for kids and if you have plenty of them coming to a wedding, the more options you have, the better.
Give Out Treats Throughout The Day
Children love sweets and they love treats too, so take advantage of this by having them on hand throughout the day. If you have a sweet stand, perhaps once they've sat down for food, their wedding favour can be a free ticket to redeem for sweets (even if they're free for everyone else), it’ll make them feel extra special. You could add in some extra treats throughout the evening whether that's little snacks on the table or hiding sweets around the venue for children to go on a treasure hunt. It’ll keep them occupied and will be a nice break for all those parents who want a little rest and relaxation.
Have Some Comfy Chairs And Sofas
As the night draws in, kids will start to dip in their energy levels and once the late night music kicks in, they’ll be telling their parents that they’re tired. To avoid any temper tantrums, make sure there’s plenty of comfy chairs and sofas knocking about for kids to nap on. Having blankets or throws are great for any outdoor areas that may get chilly but are also good for making sleepy children feel more comfortable.
Having children at a wedding can be a bit of a challenge but providing you’re well prepared for it, it can be a breeze. So consider hiring an entertainer for the day or at least for a few hours. Buy plenty of outdoor games to keep them occupied. Give them treats when necessary and make sure there’s plenty of comfy chairs and sofas for them to nap on towards the end of the night.
