A vehicle is essentially an extension of our home. While it lacks many of the assets and facilities of our home, like a bathroom and a bed, a car still acts as our private property. In fact, many of us treat our car like it’s room. We might store certain belongings in our vehicle or even decorate the inside or outside of our vehicle to our liking.
The downside to our car is an extension of our home, however, is that it’s our responsibility to keep it clean and tidy. For some people, cleaning the inside and outside of their vehicles tends to be a big mission. This is particularly true if they often have a lot of occupants in their vehicle and/or have children who frequently make messes in their car.
If you’re looking for ways to keep your car as clean as humanly possible for as long as possible, consider the following tips:
1. Protect your car with a car cover when parked.
Due to the harm frequently washing a car has on the environment, many are looking for ways to keep the outside of their car clean while conserving as much water as possible. While there are environmentally-friendly ways to wash your car, one way to keep your car cleaner for longer is to place a car cover over your vehicle when parked.
A car cover can not only keep dust, sap, and other debris from accumulating on your vehicle but can eliminate potential scratches from fallen pebbles or branches, keep your car cooler on the inside, and may even help deter burglars from breaking into your vehicle.
2. Keep a duster in your glove box.
Cars are going to get dusty, both inside and outside. Your dashboard and windows are two common places where dust accumulates. Dust makes it harder to see out your window and view critical dials and gauges on your dash and, not to mention, isn’t good to breathe in. However, by keeping a duster in your glove box, you can get rid of dust right as it builds up.
3. Organize your stuff in a plastic caddy.
If you tend to be a bit of a hoarder, or generally own and keep a lot of belongings inside your car, the organization is critical. When you keep a plastic caddy in your vehicle, you can keep your items all in one place from extra change to paper maps, to sources of entertainment for the kiddos in the backseat.
4. Purchase a trash can for your car.
Some car owners are diligent when it comes to keeping the inside and exterior of their car dust- and crumb-free. However, what some people struggle with is leaving trash in their vehicles: empty bottles, food wrappers, ketchup packets, and the like.
To keep the inside of your car smelling fresh, looking clean and organized, and free of pests as much as possible, it’s a good idea to invest in a trash can for your car. That way, you can clean up as you dirty the inside of your vehicle. You may also wish to keep a recycle can in your car too if you frequently accumulate bottles, cans, and paper products.
