There are all sorts of different benefits to being a home-based entrepreneur, particularly for stay-at-home parents who want to try their hand at building a business around the obligations and routines of parenthood and family life.
Today, there are all sorts of different services and informative guides out there to help start-up entrepreneurs to effectively structure their services, and get the most out of them – ranging from services that help to make subscription billing of customers and clients a breeze, to virtual assistants and more.
One of the key challenges that home-based entrepreneurs frequently face, however, is keeping motivated consistently in the absence of a regular office environment, and while facing the usual challenges and hurdles that all entrepreneurs have to contend with.
Here are a few tips for keeping motivated as a stay at home entrepreneur.
Consider joining up with a professional support group
With remote working and digital entrepreneurship becoming such common realities of professional life, many professional support groups and communities have grown up in order to help individuals to stay connected and motivated – not to mention accountable – when working from home.
Consider joining up with a professional support group, whether that means going to a co-working space once a week, or simply communicating with other entrepreneurs via a Slack chat, or similar service.
Simply having people who you communicate with on a regular basis, and who are in the same boat as you professionally speaking, can help to add a lot of balance, consistency and emotional support to your routine.
Make sure that the decisions you make within your business are the ones you believe in
At some point or another, every entrepreneur is going to be put in situations where they apparently have to make a choice between certain courses of action that they find meaningful in their business, and those that go against their own intuitions and preferences, but that seem to be the “pragmatic” decision in light of market demand, and so on.
Ultimately, however, this is a dangerous path to take – as it can easily lead to you losing enthusiasm for your business, and losing the sense that your business is a proper reflection of your professional vision and personal values.
Making sure that the decisions that you make in your business are the ones you believe in can go a long way towards keeping you motivated and positive.
Aim for balance and positivity in the other areas of your life as well
Professional motivation is certainly likely to flag if the other areas of your life are imbalanced, or if there are particular issues that need to be dealt with but which you are ignoring.
Aiming for balance and positivity across your life as a whole will almost always have a positive domino effect on your professional life, and on how you feel in terms of your professional motivation.
After all, it’s the same “you” who’s doing the work and who’s living the rest of your life, so aim to look at things in a holistic manner to the best of your ability.
