When the weather is rubbish and the kids are off school, it can be difficult to keep them amused. You want them to enjoy the time off with you but many activities can be limited to good weather. When it’s the school holidays in particular, you don’t want to end up spending thousands of pounds in order to do things with the kids just because activities like going for a beach day are off limits due to the wind and rain. In this article we take a look at some ways you can entertain your kids when it’s raining outside so they’re guaranteed a good time.
Have an arts and crafts day
Get creative and have an arts and crafts day, then find a printing company and get your designs printed. Don’t worry about getting messy, just enjoy spending time together and then try and make it fun when you have to tidy everything up. You could have a competition on who can paint the best picture, design the best 3d image on your iPad or throw the furthest paper aeroplane. Why not treat yourself to a takeout at the same time as a way to extend the fun - kids always get excited when they are being treated to food. Plus, this then adds another entertaining thing whilst it’s raining outside. Hopefully, your children will appreciate it!
Play some games together
Games are good fun! They bring out your competitive spirit whilst also getting to spend some quality time together. There is a game for everything and all interests. If you enjoy strategic games, you can play chess, if you want something fun, the standard is Monopoly or if you want something quick, you can get a deck of cards out and play games like Snap or Spider. If you have a games console like an Xbox or PlayStation, having a gaming day can also be fun. There are plenty of multiplayer games you can get into.
Throw a movie day
One of the easiest things you can do when you are stuck for ideas is to throw a movie day - the kids will love it! Forget healthy eating, buy all their favourite sweet treats, order a takeaway, get your duvet and blankets out and snuggle, whilst watching a film. Chances are you will be subscribing to a streaming service meaning you probably won’t have to order a film, so the movie day won’t be expensive at all. The challenge is, that all of you agree on what to watch, this can take a 30-minute debate.
These are just a few ideas that are super easy to do and don’t require you to spend much if anything. Things such as games day can mean you using the games you have in your house, while a movie day would just require a few snacks to keep them going while you watch your movie. They will have fun, you’ll keep your bank account in check and you can enjoy spending time together. What are some top tips you have for entertaining your kids when it’s raining outside?
