There isn’t much more excitement than giving birth to your baby (although it can be very nerve-racking). Bringing life to the world is one of the most magical things you can do on this earth. You’ll never forget the moment you hold your little one in your arms for the first time and then you’ll go on a journey of many firsts, from their first steps to their first words and first smile - every day is a memory!
As the months approach to you giving birth, now is the time to start getting prepared. The best advice we can give is to do as much research as possible, this way you can understand what’s happening to you, during the process. Getting a birthing bag is essential and so is preparing your mind - In the back of your mind (although we hope you don’t need to), looking into birth injury claims can also be helpful.
Below we look into three different ways to get yourself prepared for birth. We hope we can give you a good starting point for your exciting journey to becoming a family.
Research as much as you can
As the month approaches, try to research as much into giving birth as possible. The more knowledge you have of the process, the less stressed you will be when it comes to your day. You can watch YouTube videos, follow mummy bloggers online and contact your local medical agency for information. They say knowledge is power, and this couldn’t be more true when it comes to giving birth.
Have a birthing bag prepared
The sooner you get your birthing bag prepared, the better. Having a birthing bag prepared is important as you never know when you are going to go into labour, so you want to have one by the door, which you can quickly pick up and grab before you go to the hospital. A few things that you should include in your birthing bag are: A dressing gown, lip balm, phone charger, towels, and nappies, amongst other things. There are some good checklists online which you can use for guidance. When you are a mummy, you’ll have many checklists so you don’t forget things.
Write a birthing plan
Another very important suggestion is to have a birthing plan written down. By having a birthing plan to hand, you can give it to the hospital when you go into labour. Having one is important as it means the hospital you are in, can follow any guidance and beliefs you have. In your plan, you can include things like the medication you are willing to take and not take, the people you want in the room with you, a favoured birth position and more.
